The teachers don't help.

So Mark got in trouble today for saying hell.
Some kid was saying all kinds of shit and cursing like a sailor in class and Mark said what the hell and the teacher caught him so mark got lonely lunch.
It's like time out for older kids.
You sit at a table by yourself near the teachers.
Everyone knows you're in lonely lunch.
I told him to just spend the time having a nice peaceful meal and thinking about stuff.
He said like what and I said, like more pictures that you drew the other day that pissed the teacher off.
A teacher got upset because Mark drew 2 matching pictures or themed pictures, during his free time near the end of class.
One is of the devil and it says come to hell and the other is a godish figure that says come to heaven.
There is nothing wrong with these images.
see for yourself.

Clickable for biggie size.

Now, was or is there anything wrong with these 2 pictures?
I don't see a problem but she told him he had to draw happy things.
Happy things?
Like rainbows and bunnies?
Does anyone honestly think that if a kid just draws rainbows and bunnies that they will grow up to be a happy, normal, well adjusted individual?
What about creativity? What about art and vision?
He got a lonely lunch for these 2 pictures.
A girl in his class was sent to the school psychologist today after turning in her poem on the broad subject of life.
That was the assignment, write a poem about life so this girl wrote a poem about suicide and it's effects.
They sent her to the school shrink.
She now has to spend time with a counselor every week to explore these feelings.
Did the teacher stop and actually read the poem or just assume the girl was going to off herself?
Maybe it was just a general poem. Maybe she knew someone who had.
I doubt any of us will really know because it's highly unlikely that girl is going to write anything serious for school again.
Write something that makes the teacher uncomfy, get sent to the shrink.
Draw something, get sent to lonely lunch for being offensive.

I think that is one of the most fucked up thing I have ever heard! WOW!

That's insane, it sounds to me like he's a normal kid for his age. I am so proud of him for expressing himself so well, with the pictures. They're good pictures, and they're thought provoking. I bet each of us could post what we thought they were about, and get some very different responses. Isn't that what good art does?

Screw his teacher.

Karri, it's just a picture. When has a picture ever hurt anyone. I don't understand teachers.

Isn't it Heidi. He said hell. It's just a word that people get freaked out by. I hate his teachers as much as he does.

Ahhhhh...that is public school for ya. I don't see a problem with the pictures...or the poem. Creativity is not looked upon happily at public schools. Well, I hope all turns out well...

Jeeeebus...I think those are amazing pieces of art, and very creative and thought provoking, especially considering his age.

Like a lot of other people have said....creativity is only good in the public school system if it doesn't offend anyone or appear 'dark' or whatnot. Their job is to turn out future sheep.

I know it Kim. Baaa little sheeps with no thoughts of their own.

He'll be fine. I told him that's just how it is with teacher who are afraid of their own shadows.

You know, I think the schools want to stop creativity, at least the creativity they feel is 'bad'.

The whole world is now all about being PC (Politically correct) so of course they are forcing the schools to teach kids to be PC, hence all the problems in school with those creative few. I think though it's horrible how your son's school is taking care of these things.

You know what?! You know your children best. If these pictures aren't a big deal to you then why are they a big deal to this teacher.... I just don't understand some teachers these days.

I'd say the teacher was uncomfortable with the pictures herself. She sounds like the fluffy clouds & pink bunnies type personality. You know ... the one that thinks everyone should dress prep, use "lady like words," pretend not to see what "isn't nice" while singing La, la... la, la, la, la.... and smiling plastically all the time.

Honestly, she didn't know what to make of the pictures and isn't trained or emotionally stable enough to deal with life as a whole, hence she's an elementary teacher who has built her own little world with its own little definitions inside the walls of her classroom to keep herself stable. Mark's pictures and vision don't follow the rules of her reality (better known as Denial-ville)

Brian, I think the school should teach the subjects at hand, alert all students that swearing will not be tolerated but not stifle an individuals mind. One of my favorite teachers said to me to always question authority. It helps them to stay free thinkers.

Andrea, it's not as though he only made a picture of satan, he did both so he covered ll the bases so to speak. The teacher was obviously just uncomfortable with it.

Exactly Anne.

As fucked up as that is, it doesn't surprise me in the least. When you consider that history is being rewritten in textbooks to be "politically correct" so as not to offend anyone, kids are getting suspended for having different colored hair, and schools are banning the wearing of certain colors (like PINK. Pink for gawd's sake! what kind of gang is going to use PINK as it's gang sign? The Ghetto Barbies?) - it's not surprising that anything outside of "mainstream pc" is going to get the boot rather quickly. Makes me wanna home school more and more every day. grr...

Other than that, hope you have a wonderful day! :)

I saw that whole pink debacle too and I was all like what the fuck???? It's pink. Yeah man, we cool, we the Pink pummelers and we will pulverize your asses!...lmao

I am so happy I am out of school and just hope I can get mine through sane and alive.

As a teacher I think you are all oblivious. Just think, if the teacher had not sent the student to see the school counselor and the student then committed suicide, the teacher would be sued for not doing something. There is no winning with the general public! Unless you have taught then I think you should all keep you mouths shut!

As a parent, I think you teachers should do your jobs that we pay you
to do which is teach reading, writing and arithmetic and leave
parenting to the parents.
The schools all yabber on about zero tolerance policies and violence
and all kinds of things but they see a fight right in front of their
eyes and do NOTHING yet some girl writes a poem about suicide and they
send her to a shrink further ostracizing her from her peers. The
school should have contacted the parents and let them decide whether
or not she should seek help. It is not the schools job to do one type
of behavior modification and entirely avoid all others.
And the next time you come to my site, please speak to me with some
respect and not tell me to shut up.
What kind of example are you as a teacher telling parents to shut up?
Shame on you.
