What reason exactly do I have cats?
Yes, they make good companions but the real reason any of us have cats is because they are supposed to hunt, mame and kill critters that make it into the house somehow right?
Not mine.
Oh no. Not mine.
I hear a loud crash from the kitchen.
I go out to investigate and see one of my purple wine glasses smashed in the sink. I look up and see a snake wrapped around ex-roommate's Dead Red wine.
I ran and screamed.
It then made it's way to the window in an attempt to escape the shrillness of my screams no doubt.

Then, when it realized it couldn't get out, it made it's way down the wall to my trash can where I continued to scream and yell at the boys to get help!

Sebastian went and got the neighbors who captured it for my panicked ass.
This is the second time in the 5 years I have lived here that I have had a snake in the house and the second time that I have been cleaning and moving all over the house and not noticed it at all and the second time my no good for nothing cats sat and watched it like it was a fucking tv show.

Some of my cats...the older ones...are lazy...but the younger ones would have made mincemeat out of that snake!
in the summertime, if any flies get in here, the kittens love to hunt, catch and eat them. Who needs Raid???

They watched it I kid you not. They sat and watched as it squirmed around my kitchen. This is the second time they have done it. Two older cats and one kitten and tehy all just hung out and watched it. Damn things. Maybe I should feed them less and then they'd be interested in catching stuff. ;)

OMG...Kat I would of had a anxiety attack if one appeared in my house. I probably would of ended up in the ER. I am scared shitless of snakes. Glad its gone for ya. The cats...is too funny.

eek--I hate it when snakes get in the house. I've been told by a wise old mountain man that if you feed your cats dog food, it doesn't have enough fat in it and they hunt to get the fat content they need. We were actually talking about hunting mice, so I don't know if they'd go after snakes or not, not sure how fatty they are. lol

It was just a black racer but they are fast and their bites, although not poisonous, hurt like hell. My neighbors took it to their house. I don't know what they plan to do with it...lol Fucking cats. I'm still mad at them.

I would never sleep again!

Christie, I am with you. I would have ended up in the ER with a heart attack. Snakes scare the shit out of me.

OMG!!!! I know that I want to get back home ASAP, I am still so fucking happy that I wasn't there when the snake was! I hate snakes and I think they all should die! I am so afraid of them, they make me sick!

Better a snake than a big fat spider, in my books.
But yeah, I agree that the cats were pretty useless in that situation.
Sorta like the time this massive centipede was crawling up my wall in the middle of the night. Thankfully, that time, one of the cats woke me up because he was freaked out by the bug. I got up and in a pitch-dark room mashed the bug with a shoe. Damn near puked the next morning when I saw it there.

OH!!! shivers!!! I HATE snakes!!!! I wonder if you cat was ever taught to hunt snakes. I don't think mine was, otherwise she'd bring one to the door once in a while as she has with mice. *ewww* I'm glad your neighbor helped out! *hugs*

They were not taught to hunt snakes but they didn't even alert me to a problem. They just sat around. *sigh*

Heidi, he was just a black racer but I was scared shitless too. :)

Jen, I can sleep knowing I had snakes in here what makes me not sleep is the big ol wolf spiders that get in sometimes. ;)

I managed to avoid the ER but my heart didn't stop racing until this morning.
Posted by: kat | April 4, 2004 10:29 AM
Oh, I'll take a snake too over the big spiders anyday...lol

OH my goodness!
You know, cats are funny like that when I lived in the country we had cats to keep the mice out of the barn - they just watched the mice run around the barn. Lazy cats.
Posted by: squishybear | April 4, 2004 12:05 PM
Oh, they'll catch mice and bugs but the bigger stuff like spiders and snakes, they ignore.

Cracks me up that you took the time to take pictures. I would have absolutely done the same thing. :)

Well I had to wait for someone to come and catch it and if I had had a better camera with a zoom on it, the pics would be better. This is as close I got...lol
