Follow up to last nights post.
One of the other things the guy at the bank said was that they didn't do a credit check because they comply with the act but other banks do require a credit check because they don't comply.
He also told me to just get a credit card to prove I'm credit worthy.
But let's go back to what he said.
When we came home, I checked a few of the other local banks privacy policies.
All of them COMPLY with the patriot act.
Which means that ex-roommate's bank account that she has had for several years now that didn't require her to prove identity at the time of opening the account, now falls under the act.
Meaning, they do have access to her account.
Some of the comments that people posted to me last night said that their banks don't require any of those things.
I suggest, if you have a way to look at your bank online, that you go check the privacy policy. It will be in small print located somewhere at the bottom of the website. You may even have to look for it like I did with Liberty bank, bank of America and Wachovia under the site map function.
All banks are require by federal law to comply with the act.
Like I said, fuck it. I don't need a stinking bank account.
If anyone sends me a check, I'll just go to Amscot where all they ask me for is my id. Sure, they take $5 out of every $100 but who the hell cares at this point.
I can't get a credit a card and even if I could get one, I don't want one.
I don't need to be anymore in debt than I already am. They are just too easy to spend what you don't have with.
I have a strict policy that if I don't have the cash, I can't have whatever it is.
Sure I'm broke most of the time and life is a struggle but I wouldn't be able to pay the card off anyway and I certainly don't want one just to prove that I'm credit worthy and so that people know who I am.

Everything in this world these days revolves around credit. Credit is good in some circumstances but it is evil. An easy trap to fall into and get way over your head. I'm proof of that and you can see many others are, by how many credit helping organizations there are now. I think you're smart to stick with what works for you! :-)
Have a good day today! *hugs*

I know many people who are in debt too Karen and it's because of credit cards.

I think you're smart to not get in the credit card stuff too. It's a never-ending battle (almost) to get out of it once you do, and why should you put yourself in that position unless it's something YOU really want/need to do.

That's what he suggested that I do. Get a credit card so that it can be used as positive id but as I was telling kim, my credit is forever ruined because of my ex-mother in law. I couldn't get credit to prove positive id even if I wanted to.

First of all, I am so against the invasion of Privacy that is masquerading as the Patriot Act. I think they used the fear of the nation to take away the public's right to privacy.
Secondly, I would've told that bank guy where he could shove his rules. To say you have to have a credit card to open a checking account is beyond ridiculous. Most people start with a checking account - I think banks are trying to drive people into debt. I abhor credit cards. The only one I use is the debit card from my bank--if I don't have the cash, I can't use it.
hehe I'm smarter than the government--I know how to keep myself out of debt. hahaha
Sorry-stupid shit like that just ticks me off.

Jennifer, it's totally rediculous. I just can't understand why a credit card is needed to prove identity but they don't require the numbers off the card. I mean, I could just say yes I have a mastercard. No you can't see it seeing as you don't write the numbers down anyway and get an account that way. But I don't like the idea of them accessing my finances for whatever reason. At most, I'd have $100 in there but still, it's my money, why do they need to see it?
