Batten down the hatches.
The hurricane shifted overnight and it is now headed straight at Sarasota/Manatee Counties.
It has been upgraded to a category 3 by the time it makes landfall sometime tomorrow.
This means winds of 110 miles per hour.
Some people are a bit concerned and I thank you for that but I want to assure you all that we will be fine.
This house was built a gazillion years ago out of huge cement blocks. It is not the housing of today made with plywood and 2x4s. (heh)
We have water, candles, canned food, batteries, board games, smokes, soda.
We will be fine.
There really isn't much you can do with one of these except ride it out. Panicking is stupid. It accomplishes nothing.
I will not beat people up for loaves of bread or the last gallon of water at the store. If they think they need it that bad, have at it.
We have what we need.
The animals will be secured in the back bathroom which is the safest part of the house and ex-roommate and I will clean up the patio furniture when we get back from the doctors.
We may lose power.
This could suck cuz then I couldn't blog the hurricane but if that happens, I will just take notes and pictures and blog it when we come back...lol
So you all hang tight.
It won't be that bad and I have yet to see a storm that made me want to leave Florida.

But... but... Fox News says it's the end of the world! I need to build a fallout shelter NOW!
Well, at least I won't have to get into a death match with you over the last Snicker bar in Publix. That could have gotten ugly (for me).

You would take the last snicker bar out of the mouth of my children?
See, I don't fight over, I guilt people ...lmao
We'll be fine. You hang in there too.

Hey, stay safe (I know you will). I grew up in a cement block house in Florida just like that and you are so right, they can withstand anything! and I bet your kids are having fun, I know I always did. Power outage is the worst part, and those poor power guys who are out in all kinds of weather...
Anyway, we may be getting the tail ends of your stuff so, send it on up here!

So far they haven't called school for tomorrow but they will be making that decision around noon. The kids love this kind of stuff. It's fun to watch and play in.
The tail end shouldn't be too bad.

Hope it wasn't too bad and everything is OK there! *hugs*

I live in Los Angeles, but I have some good memories of a trip to Tampa in 2001, particularly visits to some bars right on the Gulf in Ozona Beach. I hope they make it--they were great to me. Is there an Ozona Beach blogger I can check with?
All the best and good luck.

I have no idea about that Joseph. I am south of Tampa area and haven't met any bloggers from that area at all. Tampa should be fine though. The hurricane is hitting south of there. Like me.
