Don't talk about the money.

big_boy_mows.jpg

Sporty was talking about those new Old Navy commercials where the clothes have feel good molecules and the mowing the lawn is blowing the kids mind. Well, I wish we had clothes that did that because Mark is starting to need them.
He took on a lawn-mowing job that pays him $10 a cut and he enjoyed the money all summer and he still likes the money but man, is it a hassle to get him to go do it.
He argues, slams doors, stomps, pitches a fit and I told him if he wants to quit, then he needs to give the guy at least 2 weeks notice so he can hire someone else and he's all I don't want to quit and I'm all so go do it it's getting late.
And he starts complaining about how hard it is and I tell him well if you think I can or will pay for your Runescape membership, you're crazy.
He's all don't talk about the money and I'm all I will talk about the money cuz you sure do like having it and that is why you took this job so either go do it or tell the guy you quit. He pitched a fit for a few more minutes and then stomped off to mow the lawn.
If those Old Navy feel good molecule clothes exist and will make his mind blow to go give the lawn a haircut, then where do I buy him 20 pairs?

He sure as hell could have my pair. Now if they could make a nice pair that would motivate me to get some cleaning done around here...... I'd give them to the maid. :oP

That commercial freaks me out - I mean when they show the cartoon jeans what the heck is that thing that comes out around the crotch area and knocks around the ball looking things.

Those jeans are too prev for me :-P

Yea I always say that I wish I had that clothing too for pretty much the same reason. Wow he so sounds like TJ right now. Loves having the money but is hating to have to do the work for it!

This is all new behavior for him. Usually, he is the sweetest kid ever.

I have no idea what the heck it is...lol

You have a maid? ;)

Hey stopping in to say hi. Does Robaxin help your muscle pain? I have tried it once and didn't really notice a difference. I think my body just laughs at all the meds I feed it nowadays anyway though.
I hope everyone there feels better soon.

It sorta helps. I am not getting the muscle spasms as much but it's not great. It makes me really loopy too.

Addison's been mowing lawns all summer. Maybe I should send him over to talk to the boy. He managed to buy a computer with his earnings.

We thought those lawn-mowing jeans were pretty funny. :)

hmmm, your body chemistry must be way different than mine. The only muscle relaxer that makes me loopy is my beloved Soma. heh I am looking for a change in meds though regarding the relaxers b/c I've noticed a difference in how the Soma works now so I may suggest trying robaxin to my doc.
As you know, any kind of relief is good relief.
I hope you are having a gentle back day. (((HUGS)))

Maybe I can find some feel-good molecules and inject them into the jeans I'm about to package up for him! (Yes, they're washed, they're folded, and I have a box... but I am the Queen of Procrastination.)

That would be great Terry...lol

I've been able to work up to a whole one now. I had to cut them in half for the whole first week cuz they were knocking my ass out cold for like 6 hours.

That is really awesome Andrea. Way to go Addison.

Why is it your job to get him to go do his job? Just curious. I'd think you have enough on your plate.

Because I am his mother teaching him responsibility. You can't just take a job and then not show up because you don't feel like it. I suppose you could but that leaves your employer in a bad situation so I told him that if he wants to quit, he has to give the guy 2 weeks notice. I am trying to teach him to be responsible. That is my job.

I understand that it's your job to teach him to be responsible; I couldn't agree more. In fact, I think it's great you have responsibility in mind; you go, super mom! I just don't quite see how nagging him to fulfill his responsibilities teaches him responsibility. Admittedly, I am drawing conclusions about your complicated life on the basis of one post in your blog! So take this with about a pound of salt.

What I mean is that to have responsibility, a person has to be self-motivated. If I put off mowing the lawn and defer doing it and just let it slide until my wife yells at me and makes me do it, then I'm not being responsible. In fact, my wife is the one who is responsible - she "owns" the issue. By nagging him to do his job, it seems like you are owning the job and making him do it. Another way to think of it is to ask what the consequences of your son's behavior are in the absence of you taking any action. For example, if he chooses not to show up to do the job, he's going to get fired. That, to my mind, would teach him quite a bit about responsibility - "holy cow, I didn't do the job and now I don't have a job". Anyway, this is just my $0.02. My oldest is just nine so I'm privileged not to be dealing with teenagers yet! Best wishes.

I hear you and I understand how you see it, but get back to me when you have teenagers who want money, have a job but refuse to do the job but still want the money.
It's a whole different ballgame when it's your kids and you too will see things differently when yours are where mine are.
Thanks for stopping by.
