Don't throw anything at me.

I wanted to like Napoleon Dynamite. I really did.
I got off the pc and hopped on the couch and watched it.
I mean, the reviews from other bloggers everywhere said this was the must see movie. You'll love it. It rocks. People quote it all the time.

Am I missing something here?
Did I get the edited unfunny version or something?
The only part that was even remotely funny was his dancing. Ok, the fight with his uncle but that's it. Really.
Maybe I lost my sense of humor or something.
Maybe I need to watch it again.
Stoned or drunk. But I don't do those things anymore so maybe triple up on pain pills and wash them down with like 5 sodas.
I just don't see the funny everyone raved about.

I honestly think this is one of those mass hysteria movies. It's like a small group of people goes around telling everyone how funny it is and how you'll absolutely love it and if you don't, something must be wrong with you.

I've seen it happen with other movies before. I know it happens and I think that is what happened with this one.

But in other movie news, help me pick one.
I get a free movie from Kelloggs cuz we eat way too much cereal here.
Honeymoon in Vegas
It runs in the Family
The Man in the Iron Mask
Agent Cody Banks
Return to Me
Hackers
Baby Boom
12 Angry men

I am saying right off the bat no to Cody banks and hackers. I have hackers on VHS.

I have not seen this movie, so I can't voice an opinion of it. But I can say that there is nothing wrng with you for not liking something that many other people like. I have watched plenty of movies that the rest of the world loved, but I hated. And sometimes I like stuff that everyone else hates.

Case in point: "The Piano". This came out ages and ages ago. It got all manner of critucal acclaim, won all sorts of awards. I rented it...watched it...fell sound asleep. And it wasn;t late at night and I wasn't even tired. Tried watching it again, and it led to another yawn-fest.

However, I LOVED "Xanadu", which admittedly is a bad and cheesy movie. But I bought it anyway, because I liked it that much.

As for the freebie..."Honeymoon in Veags" was pretty funny. Don't really know much about any of the others, although "It Runs in the Family" looked funny when I saw the ads for it ages ago.

Hackers and Baby Boom are the only ones I like of those. Since you have Hackers, that leaves just Baby Boom. I happen to love that movie too, no idea why, lol.

What was that about again? Oh, I can look it up. It was kevin Bacon right?

I liked Xanadu too...lol The piano was ok. It was very long though. It took me two watchings to finish the whole thing.

Eh, you have to be in the right mood I guess. Or a teenager? :D I didn't think it was the *funniest* one I'd seen ages, but I did laugh at a couple spots.

The boys laughed a few times so I think they got it but I know some older bloggers than myself who just raved about this like it was an amazing piece of film that everyone just had to see. Oh well.

I loved Honeymoon in Vegas :)

I did too but enough to own it? Even if it's for free? That's my thing. Which one is gonna get watched...lol

I saw the preview for Napoleon Dynamite and I thought it looked stupid; really stupid. I still have not seen it. I refuse.
I really liked Babay Boom and Return to Me but they are certainly not the best movies I have ever seen.

It was a movie that you had to be in the mood for stupid humor. In my opinion, you had to know about the life in Idaho because that was where all the humor was. Preston is a poe-dunk town and the people are so much like that, its funny.

Sorry you didn't like it, but we're all different so I won't throw anything at you. LOL!

I'd choose Return to Me or Baby Boom. Return to Me is really good, love story about a widower meeting a woman who happened to have his late wife's heart from a transplant. Baby Boom is really cute and funny about a big wig NY executive who inherits a baby and ends up losing her job and moving to the country.

Have a great day!! *HUGS*

I was thinking either return to me or man in the iron mask. I just like that ones cheesy goodness...lol

Out of those choices though, what would you get? A free movie is a free movie...lol

A coworker was estatic about Napoleon Dynomite, so I put it in my queue without having heard anything else about the movie. We watched it and thought it was slow, dull, and it spurred us to try to figure out how to fast forward to the funny parts - how do analogue people deal with digital technology.

My coworker was pretty disappointed in my breakroom reaction to the film but I put that down to one opinion against another's, or one family's opinion vs. anothers.

Then I started talking about the film with various friends, quoting scenes, making oblique references in conversation, etc. and I started to think back and decide, yah, that was pretty funny - like the part where he worked for the chicken farmer for a day with Pedro and made, like, 5 dollars and had the look of dawning apprehension that he had been had and the worse part was that he had been working with adults that had also been had, and that it happened every day. It didn't seem funny when he was doing it, but thinking back on it, I chuckled...

Anyway, I'm on the verge of putting it back in the queue and giving it another shot

Stumbled on your blog. Very cool design. The way the comments refresh as you write them is a first for me and very very cool. Best to you and the boys.

That part you mentioned, I didn't think was funny. I thought it was sad and terrible and yes it happens everyday and I guess that's why I didn't laugh. People get taken fro a ride every single day.

I'm glad people can find it funny. I just couldn't laugh at it. My boys did though.

Yep, I guess sometimes we laugh not because something is comedic but because its terrible and we've been there and its either laugh or cry. I laughed at a lot just plain funny stuff though too, it just took me a while to do it, and I mostly laughed inside.

I laughed when he and his uncle wrestled/fought. That was funny cuz they both sucked at it...lol
