Yum.

Sebastian and I walked to the post office (Karri, they said yours will be there Tuesday and Bean, yours will get there Monday) and on our way back, the church was giving away free baked goods.
I am not ashamed to go to a food pantry if I need it.
So anyway, we go in and there is this huge table stretching all the way down just full of breads and bagels and bananas and everything.
The lady says it's all from Paneras and Publix. Just take whatever you need or can eat.
Well I have two teenage sons who eat like it's their last day to live.
And it's Paneras...lol
I used to work there man. I love their Asiago bagels and breads and oh my god.
So anyway, we got 3 grocery bags full of bagels and foccacias and Italian loaves and sandwich hoagies and some bananas so I can make nana bread and they had grapes and everything.
Yum.
I put most of it in the freezer to keep longer but wow, we have snackage for growing boys.
Yay!

I need to get in my kitchen and bake some breads.....all that sounds so yummy!

I love breads too but my hips don't. :)

wow, you hit the jackpot!! Oh i love that kinda bread too ..yummy

It's all fresh too. They picked it all up Friday night as both places were closing. :)

Thanks sweetie! And I've had to use our church's help before. Also used the WIC program. When they are throwing food out because nobody is taking it, that's the really sad thing, so take it! Mmmm banana bread. I have my nana's recipe for it, and it's really more like banana loaf. It's super dense and 2 pieces of it are like a full meal. Have yummy nana bread for me!

It's all good bread and like you said, it's better than throwing it all out. They do it every saturday so I might just go every saturday from now on. It's fresh, it's free and I have two growing, hungry teens to feed all the time...lol

I grew up in a good home with both parents working and contributing love and resources, rebelled, had it rough for a while, and thankfully got back on track again before my son was born. He is now 15 months old and we hope to never have to deny him anything (as any parent feels I'm sure). Even though I now have a "quote" good job, and we're doing OK, we still do the happy dance when we happen on day old bread, fruit and veggies on sale, or free from a neighor (we freeze it all), or a good deal or trade for meat. This coming fall I have half a beef coming in trade for work already done - food that will put pounds on my boy I'm sure.

Once upon a time, I provided well too. I haven't been able to work in years now because of a disability so it is what it is. I'm not ashamed.

No shame in that. You're doing what you can and thats what counts. For every parent working hard to make a good home with what they have, there is someone with kids and everything money can buy who is a lousy parent. For me, its a daily struggle. I feel so bewildered sometimes - whats important? What do I focus on the most for my kid? I bet it doesn't get any easier, even after ten years.

No it doesn't get any easier. We are our own worst enemies when it comes to parenting. We always think what if and I could have done better. Just enjoy it and learn as you go. There is no right and proper manual for raising kids. Everyone does it differently. :)
