It's supposed to ease your mind.
A lot of people ask me all the time why I don't have a car. Several reasons really, I like saving money, and car insurance here is expensive even if you go through one of those cheap companies. It's just not something I can afford on my income. I've gone and done a lot to compare car insurance in Florida, and I still don't think it's something I can pull off right now. And then with Mark going to be driving this August, insuring two drivers would be a bit much on my finances.
Insurance in general here is going up. My landlord and I talk all the time about health insurance, car, and home insurance, and he was telling me how much it went up on this property alone this year. Hurricanes have a huge effect on insurance costs.
I am always watching the local news for reports on insurance news. It keeps going up and up, we have the legislature working on it all the time, ways to force insurance companies to not be able to rake residents over the coals.
I'm hoping they can pass some decent legislation soon or my plans to buy a house in a few years won't be happening.

Tell me about it! Car insurance here in Massachusetts is through the roof! Although Mike and I both have 100% clean records, not so much as a speeding ticket. Yet we are forced to pay $1400/year to insure a 1999 car.
My friend up in New Hampshire and her hubby are paying a lot less than that to insure TWO, newer cars. And it's just as cheap in Maine, as well. I checked.
The problem here is that the state government has decided that every driver has the right to be insured, even the *Masshole drivers* that we are famous for. As a result, most insurance companies will not do business here (such as the Gecko). They don't want to be forced to insure bad drivers, at the expense of the good ones. So, we have maybe two or three companies to choose from, and that's it. And they all charge about the same.
We're sick of being forced to subsidize other people's bad driving habits.
Insuring a teen is gonna be pricey...hopefully, Mark can find a part time job to help pay for it.
