I just got jury duty.
Yup, in my mail today, a summons for jury duty. It's already filled out for exemption and stamped, and sitting to go back in my ghetto-fied mailbox.
They want me to appear at the courthouse May 9th at 8am.
First of all, I can't do it that day, I have a medical appointment which if I miss, I'll have to wait about a month to get another one.
Second, I have no car.
If I had to be downtown to the courthouse for 8am, I would have to be up at 5am, be on the first bus at 6am, and then catch another bus over to the courthouse at 7:30am.
It's simply not something I can pull off and there is no way I'm missing my doctors appointment.

You should be able to get out of it, since you have medical reasons. Hell, I got out of it once back when I was in culinary school...told them that I'd flunk out of I missed that much class (which was actually true).
They never called me again...not that I'm complaining!
Anyway, good luck!

I just sent back an exemption for jury duty... they tried to get me to do another session when it hasn't yet been two years since the last one. No thanks!

I've never been selected for jury duty! Hope you can get out of it without a hassle.

Doctors can be so hard to get in to see sometimes. I hope you don't have to do Jury Duty... I'll do it! I've always wanted to be on a Jury. My husband hates it, and he was on a Jury last week. No Fair! LOL.

Jenn,
I've never done jury duty, but every single time they have summonsed me for it, I've had a health issue that prevented me from doing it.
I really would love to do my civic duty, but I can't miss medical appointments which are so hard for me to get, to do that civic duty.

I've always wanted to do it too, but they always summons me at really bad times. I can't miss any medical appointments.
I better get out of it. If not, I'm skipping it and will pay the consequences later.

My sister was served about 2 years ago. Her and her husband had only one car at that time and he worked about 1 hour away. Along with that she had three kids at home a 4 yr old and twins that were 1 at the time. She wrote them a letter explaining the difficult situation of tugging three kids into court because she had no sitter (all family members had jobs) and she would have to leave the house at 4:45 am with kids in tow to take her husband to work and be back in time to show up at 7am. They actually declined her request and told she must appear. So she did with the kids and they actually kicked her out! Three weeks later after writing a very NASTY letter to the judge himself she was sent a check for $500.oo for her pain and suffering and was reassured that she would never be called for jury duty again and that if by mistake she was, she would receive $1000.00 for their screw up.

Mindy,
Well even if they say no, I'm not going. I can't miss this doc appointment. Too bad, so sad, fine me.
