It's on Sunday?!
While at PT today and waiting to be called back, the secretary asked me if the easter bunny would be delivering baskets to my boys on Sunday.
I said no, they don't believe in fairy tales.
Wait, it's this Sunday?
To which she replied yes, had I forgotten?
Yes, I did. Easter is not a holiday we 'honor', we do celebrate candy, but not the day.
Part of that whole being atheist thing.
So yes, I had forgotten that Sunday was easter.
She then asked me what religion I was because I don't celebrate easter.
When I replied with 'none', you would have thought the holy ghost came in and was standing behind me.
"What? You mean you don't believe in god?"
No, we don't.
"Wow", she said, "I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't believe in god."
I replied, "There are a lot of us out there, and more and more people every day, are professing not believing in a god."
She sat there with this stunned look on her face for a few minutes, and then decided to discuss the weather.
I agreed, it was very warm and humid out today, and then I was called back.
It's interesting to watch people's reactions when they discover that not every one believes in a god.
Some are outraged and condemn you to hell immediately. Some ask questions about what it's like to not believe, some ask about evolution, but many are like the secretary, stunned.
Especially when it's around a major religious holiday like easter or christmas.
The PT guy Bill, had over heard part of our conversation, so when we went back and I started the upper body bike, he asked what we do on easter if we don't go to church and stuff.
I said, "We sleep in, wake up, play video games, eat, play, watch movies, eat candy, goof off, watch the shows on tv at night, go to bed."
"You really don't do anything at all for easter?"
"We eat those Cadbury cream eggs. Those rock."
"Wow."
Uh huh, wow.
I mean really, what am I supposed to say? We really don't do anything to celebrate easter. Some years I have cooked up a ham and mashed potatoes or something, simply because it's a holiday, but usually not. There have even been a few times I've ordered pizza or chinese food.
I have celebrated a mythological rabbit when the boys were younger, because all their school friends were talking about the easter bunny coming and bringing candy. But I always told them the "bunny" didn't exist, and that parents bought baskets, put fake grass in them, and filled it with candy, and even hid eggs for their kids to find what the "bunny" left behind.
They've always been cool with it, knowing that it wasn't real, as long as they got candy, every thing was all good.
I'm debating getting a nice ham and potatoes for Sunday, not for the holiday, but because a honey glazed ham sounds really tasty right now.

Easter to me has two meaning. The Christian meaning and then there is the non Christian meaning which refers to the celebration of new life or Spring. Flowers grow, new grass appears, animals mating and producing offspring. That's where the easter egg, baskets of grass with candy or what have you originated from. I know plenty of people that celebrate Easter for that reason alone. I am a Christian but I was always taught to respect and love people know matter what the differences are. Not judge or condemn them. Who are we to do that to others? Sorry to vent like this Kat. Sometimes my buttons get pushed:)

Don't worry about venting, it's all good.
I've learned not to say too much back to people when they ask. If they get pushy and condemn me though, watch out...LOL

Some people really need to just STFU and realize that not everyone believes in any form of god or anything. I think it was rude of those who questioned you about what you are doing for easter.
I don't do the religious thing, either. We'll be away in Portland, at a ball game, for this Easter. We don't go to church even when we're at home. But I do sometimes buy a ham, because they go on sale, and we like it. White chocolate bunnies are yummie, too.
It just annoys me when people question other people's beliefs, or lack thereof. STFU already, I say to them!

I totally agree...LOL
I seem to be a magnet for this though, and my blog, is really the only place I discuss my beliefs. I don't ever just walk up to someone and ask if they believe in a god.
Isn't it kind of weird behavior to do that? hahaha

We plan to celebrate Easter by going to church, eating too much and watching the premiere of The Sopranos. And I promise you I will be devouring many Cadbury Creme Eggs because they are my favorite Easter candy.

The workplace is totally not the place for that kind of talk.
