Keep your blinds drawn in summer.
One of the many ways I save on AC costs during the hot Florida summers, is to keep my window blinds drawn down all the time.
I never open them up in the summer at all.
They keep the hot glaring sun out, keep the rooms darker, and it turn, it keeps the rooms cooler.
I swear this is one of the biggies that has helped me over the years considering I only have 1 single box unit AC, not central AC.
The box unit is in the living room or front room, and I keep all the windows tightly closed and blinds drawn, and a small fan to help circulate the cool air to other rooms of the house.
Every room in this house has room darkening blinds, drawn down all summer.
Our house doesn't get hot, I can leave the AC set on 78 degrees, and be very comfortable. I am saving money and staying cool.

That's awesome! I have to set my ac ....my CENTRAL ac, to something like 72 degrees and even then it hovers at 76-78, and worse in the boys' rooms sometimes. I love those window units for cooling off....they just can't be beat! I am tempted to buy a large one for our dining area (most central part of house) and see if that works any better or saves us any money.
