My Single Mom Life: So much for bible camp weekend.

So much for bible camp weekend.

Both boys went and just came home.
It seems the weekend of camping fun that was promised to these kids, was a ruse.
They spent 2 hours listening to a sermon, followed by some rap band rapping about Christ for 2 hours, followed by a wrestling match between all the kids who went.
It was mandatory.
Not only was it mandatory that the kids all wrestle, but the weekend counselors were cheering on the actual fist fights that broke out.
Blood was shed. Real, actual, child blood from noses and lips.
Interesting.

The boy next door walks into my living room upon their return and says to me, "Kat, I was in hell. They wanted me to wrestle a boy twice my size. He had just finished beating the hell outta this other kid. I wasn't gonna wrestle him! No freaking way! The after school program is fun, but that whole sermon stuff, is for the birds. I was in hell. I told them I was in hell, and they told me I wasn't allowed to say that word. I'm so glad to be home. Can I sleep over your house?"

I laughed, said yes, and they are now ordering some hot wings from Papa Johns, gonna watch a movie, and play video games.

So much for my nice quiet weekend and no arguing over games, but glad to hear they made a choice on their own to get the hell outta dodge.

You have got to be kidding! That is just ridiculous. I hope they get lots of complaints.

I plan on calling them in the morning and speaking with someone about it.
Granted, a complain about a church related activity coming from an atheist, is gonna come out sounding like I'm just picking on religion, but my kid was told he had to wrestle other kids.
That's just not right.

I think a letter from a lawyer might be more effective, or a complaint to the police for the attendants refusing or coercing students to fight. Isn't that illegal?

Those counselors could find themselves in serious trouble... Encouraging others to fight is called inciting violence, and allowing others to fight while you do nothing as a figure of power is negligence of your role.

It's not a question of whether your or their beliefs. It's a question of the law.

Hope your rant against them gets some feedback.

See, I've never understood the whole deal with bible camps and this just pretty much affirms they're a waste of time and space. It's good though that you allowed your sons to decide for themselves what action they would take.

I would definately call and complain. That's dangerous and any one of those kids could have been seriously hurt or killed.

That's so bizarre. What's the church denomination??
