So the leader of the moral majority died yesterday.
Jerry Falwell died at age 73 yesterday.
He was the face of the religious right.
Some people say that the religious right simply means republican, but it means right, that they think they are right, and every one else is wrong.
He believed when he said that "the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"
He blamed everyone but God.
See, the people who attacked us on 9/11, they believe that their God is right, Allah commanded them to do that.
Religion caused the attacks.
He supported racial segregation.
He thought a children's television show, was influencing children to be gay.
He seemed to have a lot of problems with gays.
He sued a couple porn magazines, and lost.
He accused Bill Clinton of orchestrating the deaths of several reporters and personal confidants who had gotten too close to his illegalities. However, it was subsequently revealed that the silhouetted journalist was, in fact, Patrick Matrisciana, the producer of the video and president of Citizens for Honest Government.
He lied, he made it all up.
Matrisciana admitted that it was "Jerry's idea to do that ... He thought that would be dramatic."
He was a liar.
I wonder how that lying thing is doing for him now, cuz ya know, lying is a sin, the ten commandments say so.
Do you think he repented yesterday morning right before his ticker stopped?
He was completely against public education, calling it a breeding ground for atheism, secularism, and humanism, which he claimed to be in contradiction with Christian morality.
Just take a look at his Christian morality.
Let's take a look at some things Falwell said over the years.
If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being. (*snicker*)
I had a student ask me, "Could the savior you believe in save Osama bin Laden?" Of course, we know the blood of Jesus Christ can save him, and then he must be executed. (Ok! God can save and forgive him, but then WE have to kill him. Got it!)
AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals. (Um, yeah)
Grown men should not be having sex with prostitutes unless they are married to them. (Ha ha! What?!)
I do not believe the homosexual community deserves minority status. One's misbehavior does not qualify him or her for minority status. Blacks, Hispanics, women, etc., are God-ordained minorities who do indeed deserve minority status. (That's right all you women, you are minorities to god. Sucks huh?)
Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan. (Well I bet that will come as a shock to millions who hang on Billy's every word)
His legacy is one of hate and divisiveness.
He did more damage to the people of this country than he ever did good.
He made it ok for Christians to hate anyone who was not like them. He made it his mission to make his fellow believers hate homosexuals, women, and anyone else who wasn't a Christian.
I feel sad for those who loved him and lost him, his family, but this world is much better off without this man.
