Entry #11
In case you are just coming by, I am taking part in the 2007 Blogathon.
My charity of choice is the Montel Williams MS Foundation.
I chose this because my sister in law Jen has MS, and I have watched her slowly go from fully functioning, working, to being in an electric scooter, unable to get herself in and out of bed, in and out of the car, able to do much of anything.
Several times since being diagnosed, Jen has lost her vision for a few days at a time, then it comes back.
Imagine that for a minute.
One day you can see, then you lose your sight, then it comes back.
Imagine the terror of not knowing if today will be a day you lose vision again for a few days, or worse yet, lose it forever. They have no way of knowing if the next time it goes, if that will be the last time she ever sees again.
I also chose it because Montel himself has MS.
Because of who he is, his tv show, his books, his ability to reach millions of people and tell them about MS, he is the perfect guy to help find a cure for MS.
Also because of who he is, he has been able to support his foundation himself and with the help of corporate sponsors.
That means that 100% of all the donations they receive will go directly to the cause of finding a cure. No money will be taken out of any donations to pay the paychecks of it's employees or any other administrative cost.
How many other charities do you know of that give every single penny raised to the actual cause it was meant for?
In Montels own words;
The world needs to know the warning signs of MS and the treatment options available. The world needs to understand that many more people have MS than current data indicates. The world needs to mobilize against MS and knock it out for good.I believe to the depth of my soul that all of these goals can be achieved. It will take courage and commitment, but these are qualities we can help each other find in ourselves. I know we can build a future of hope and health, and together we're going to win.

I don't normally watch the TV but I do enjoy him when I do catch him, he seems real and very sincere about his passion and cares for people.
Good Cause to be blogging for Kat. ;)

Don't watch too much daytime TV but I do like Montel. He's got charisma and he does seem very real and sincere. Unlike Oprah, who (I'll say it again, Dooce-style) enunciates as though her every word comes straight from God. Haha!
