Excellent 20/20 video on education.

This is a great video called Stupid in America, a special report by John Stossel from ABC.

It talks about how our public schools are failing our kids.
Teachers and schools say that more money is needed, that money is the answer.
He talks to several schools who spend far less than what some schools are asking for, and out performing the schools who do spend more money.
He also talks to schools in other countries, where those students also out perform our kids.

It's about 40 minutes long, and it's an excellent watch, a must see for parents who want their kids to get a decent education.
It's an eye opener.

I agree that funding for schools needs to be increased BUT I think that there is a lot of responsibility being put on lack of budget that is unfair. A student's education is a 3 person teamwork project between the student, the parent and the teacher(s).

As in the your case, your son's educational needs weren't being met. Rather than let it go, you went in and got it corrected. That tells me that come progress report time, you will be on them if they are not performing to their potential, wherever that potential may lie. I have a lot of friends that are teachers that send home progress reports showing the kid is failing and the parent is shocked at the semester grades. Well, ya know... change nothing and you get the same results.

What ticks me off so much about these schools needing more money is that every time this state asks for a tax hike earmarked for education, I have, until recently, supported it. So we're paying more taxes, specifically for the bettering of our schools, and there is NO difference whatsoever. I don't know where the money is going (politicians' pockets, perhaps?), but it's infuriating.
