My Single Mom Life: iRobot Roomba 416 Vacuum cleaning robot.

« 3pm already? | Main | Bye bye bye. »

iRobot Roomba 416 Vacuum cleaning robot.

This is the model Roomba I won, and arrived yesterday.

It took about 3 hours to charge using it's APS fast charger, and I let it run for a bit because I just had to test it out and scare my kitties with it.
This is what you get in the box with this model:
* iRobot Roomba® 416 Vacuum Cleaning Robot
* 1 Roomba Filter
* Advance Power Supply (APS) Fast Charger
* APS Battery
* 2 Virtual Walls (requires 2 D batteries per unit, not included)
* One-year manufacturer's warranty
* Documentation
* Owner's Guide
* Cleaning Tool
It does not come with the self charging home base, so when it's finished with it's cleaning run, you have to put it back and plug it into the wall adapter charger.
The Roomba works so well, I will probably, more than likely, buy the self charging home base to save myself from having to kneel down on the floor and plug it back in, and unplug it all the time.
I'll probably just buy the scheduler plus upgrade package, so that the Roomba will just clean the house on a schedule, and I won't have to kneel down to turn it on either.
While that may sound like the epitome of lazy, getting up and down off of the floor, is not an easy task for me with the titanium rods I have in there from shoulder to tailbone.
With a remote scheduler, I could easily see the Roomba being the disabled persons dream house cleaning machine.

The Roomba is about 13 inches in diameter. I didn't think they were that large when looking at them on the site.
They certainly don't look that big, but compared to a standard 9 inch paper plate, you can see that the Roomba is a big machine.

It cleans amazingly well. I didn't think it would have good suction at all, I mean, it's this little vacuum, not a large traditional vac, but it cleaned my rugs and terrazzo floors exceptionally well.
If you put it on max clean, it takes a longer trip around your home, and will spot clean areas that it finds are extra dirty.
It spent about 7 minutes near the cat litter boxes, just going around in circles, making sure it got up every single last piece of cat litter.
I can't even accomplish that with a broom or my regular vac.

It uses a bag-less debris system that you need to empty every 3 days according to the instructions.
I would recommend it after every use personally, so that it doesn't get full and need emptying in mid-cycle.
It cleaned up every piece of cat hair, every piece of debris it found, paper, candy wrappers, a few of the cat's toy mice, which I ended up having to rescue from the Roombas brushes.
It grabbed the mouse and just kept going. Ha haha
The bag-less debris bin is easy to take off, and easy to empty and place back on the Roomba.

The only issue I have with it as I mentioned in a previous post is, that it can get stuck under low objects like kitchen cabinets or low laying coffee tables, and then it tries to release itself, but if it can't, it starts beeping, and you have to go remove it from where ever it got stuck.
But all in all, it's a wonderful cleaning robot.
I'm very impressed with it.
The kitties have now gotten a bit more used to it, but they still follow it around and try to kill it by jumping on top of it or taking swipes at it.
I figure after a few more runs, they will be over the thrill of it, and ignore it when it does it's run.

Thank you very much iRobot for sending me this Roomba, it's a great little cleaning robot.

I am sooo jealous:P I would love to borrow it sometime:)

Oh yeah emptying after every use is what I do too, sometimes even in the middle of cleaning (we have two connecting rooms that are both carpeted). And clean the brushes regularly! I'm amazed at how dirty it can get - but it cleans awesome.

I have the one a step below but I am so tempted to upgrade to a newer one!

Mine came with the charger thing. You are going to need some spare filters too.

omg I so want one

Kat, the roomba sounds awesome. It would be perfect for us single guys that don't have a lot of time to clean. Do you have any info where I could find out how to get one? Thanks. p.s. hope you got some excedrin for that headache.

*Kat Edit*

Johnny, you can get the iRobot at their on line store.
You can find that here, and select the model you prefer.
