Y'all know how much I love spending money.
Not.
Dammit!
Guess what my first major purchase of 2008 is going to be?
Can you guess? No?
Well let me tell you what I get to buy. Again.
A new lawnmower.
Yay!
Isn't that fucking exciting?!
Mark mowed our neighbors lawn about 2 weeks ago, it's winter here so the grass only has to be cut like once a month now.
So he mowed their lawn and they had dumped charcoal briquets on their lawn.
Who the hell dumps charcoal on the lawn?!
So anyway, Mark was mowing their lawn and ran over the said charcoal, and when they hit the blades, they caught sparks and caused a huge rip to happen in the top of the mower.
There's a huge hole, the blades are now catching on the metal hanging down, and it's basically causing all kinds of problems, and basically, the lawnmower is a giant piece of shit now.
So yay!
I get to buy a brand new mower. This makes 3 lawnmowers in the 10 years we have lived in this house now.
I can't freaking believe this.
Bah.
Speaking of Mark, he and George went and looked at the charger, it's not in too bad of shape, but they saw a different car they liked more and would be slightly less engine work to fix.
They are going back tomorrow to look at it again and probably get it.
They didn't tell me what kind it is yet, they want to make sure they are really going to get it before they say anything.

Comments
I think that the neighbors whose lawn Mark was mowing should pay for at least part of the cost of a new mower. I don't know that you'd have any luck collecting from them, though.
Back when I used to be able to BBQ in the yard here, I just waited for the used charcoal to cool down, and then I just dumped it in the trash. Never would have thought of dumping it on the grassy area of the yard.
Mark shouldn't mow these people's lawn in the future, not unless they provide a security deposit for a new mower.

Ughhhh, sorry to hear about your lawn mower. Do you get good tax money back? Could use a few hundred for that...?

UGH! I work(ed) in a lawnmower repair shop, sounds like you've really got a scewed up mower there! My suggestion, go to Kmart or something like that and get one of their el-cheapo mowers! We had one that lasted us better than 10 years and we did almost no maintenance on it...LOL! It was one of the best push mowers we ever owned!

You are ahead of me; I've had to purchase three lawnmowers in the three years we've been here. I hope we're done now!

What Christine said was the first thing that came to my mind. Bloody neighbours should pay for at LEAST half of the new mower! What a drag!
