It's rotten.
I took a package of hamburger out of the freezer yesterday morning, and set it to thaw in the fridge.
I was planning on using it tonight for dinner, so yeah, about 24 hours in a cold fridge to thaw should have been fine.
I just went to check it, make sure it was thawed out, and when I looked at it, it had that nasty grey/brown color to it, indicating that it's no good.
I mean, maybe it is good, but I don't take chances with meat.
I have food phobias about rotten foods, I just can't use them if they even look a little bit off.
Maybe just the top layer was discolored, but nope I can't do it, and I tossed it in the trash.
So now I have to go to Publix again or more hamburger.
*sigh*
I really just wanted to have a super lazy Sunday and not do a damned thing.

One of the things they drummed into our heads in sanitation class at culinary school...WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT.
Ground meats are riskier than most, because once it's been ground, that's more surface area that can be exposed to nasty little buggers, than on a non-ground cut of meat.
It's not worth the risk. Even if you picked off the icky parts, and the inside was still pink, there still could be something growing in there.
I would have thrown it out, too...yuck!

Ugh, I've done that before, and I HATE it! It's bad enough if it happens when I just want to be lazy, but it always happens to me when I am too broke to go get anything else and we end up eating sandwiches and/or cereal for supper.

Maybe it was freezer burned.... If it did not have a bad smell to it - it prob was fine. Its just cause the blood drains down to the bottom.

I agree with the above -- it's the smell that tips you off, not the look of it. Sometimes they actually ADD red color to ground beef to make it look super fresh. (I read that somewhere, don't ask me where, LOL).
