No payment.
A day or two ago on the local forums, a young male member asked if there were any freelance workers, people who are self employed on the board, he needed help, a few questions, and one of them was about stop notices.
After no one else had responded to his question after several hours had gone by, I responded that I am self employed, a freelance writer, what did he need help with?
He said he had been doing some subcontracting work, did not want to discuss exactly which field it was in, and that he had now not been paid for over a month even though he had submitted invoices to the company he subcontracts from, what could he do to get paid?
I explained that sometimes subcontractors, especially in the field of construction, do not get paid until the people or company pay the company that he is subbing from.
That it can take weeks or longer, sometimes months, for the company and the subs to get paid.
A contractor can put out a lien on the property they are doing the work on for non-payment, and then the bank steps in and takes over, but it can still take a long time.
With a stop notice also attached, the holder of the construction funds will have a demand placed on them to withhold the amount of the funds equal to the work.
It was only after I had explained it a bit, that some other guys on the forum decided to pop in to that thread and start explaining it all over again.
They basically said what I said, but you know, female equals not knowledgeable in the construction industry, and they all danced around my answers like I hadn't posted at all.
You don't have to be in construction to understand liens and stop notices.
If you do any kind of subcontracting work, it's in your best interest to make sure payment agreements are set up before you begin the job, and if in the event the agreement is broken, you can then file a lien or stop notice to make sure that you get paid for the work you have done.

That just burns me up! Well, the part about the subcontracting and the way men act like women aren't as knowledgeable is irritating, but I was talking about explaining something itself. I have answered questions and explained things on forums and in comments, etc, SO MANY TIMES, was the first one to do so, and then others will do the exact same thing and the OP just ignores what I've said and goes on and has a conversation with some of the other commenters. Am I a big baby or what? But I can't help it, that is so irritating!
