Mark's hand is fine.

Thank you all so much for your concern and words of advice, there's a lot of strong opinions out there! *laugh*

This morning, the swelling in his hand has gone way, way down, it's almost back to normal looking, and he can now flex and fist his hand up, and it's not giving him as much pain.
He says it's still a little bit sore, but not feeling anything at all like it was 24-48 hours ago.

We kept it bandaged up snuggly in the ace bandage, kept using ice on it every 3-4 hours, and giving him Tylenol for the pain.
Someone had suggested giving him Advil for the inflammation, but as my sister and I have learned, Mark is very allergic to it, or it just doesn't agree with him.
He had slept over her house one night and ended up with a headache.
She only keeps Advil on hand because Tylenol upsets her stomach, so she gave him two Advil caplets.
Within 30 minutes, Mark was violently puking, and his headache actually got much much worse.
Since then we have figured out that it's not just name brand Advil, it's all NSAIDs, store brand, Aleve, any of them cause him to puke, so the only thing he can take is Tylenol for pain, and use ice to calm any swelling down.

So he's doing much, much better, we just needed to wait and see how it was going to do, swelling up or going down.
He says his hand actually feels well enough for him to mow the lawn later this evening.
He's been putting off mowing the lawn for like 2 weeks now, it's about knee high, so yeah he said he's going to try and mow it tonight.
He says he feels well enough to try, so I'm going to let him.

I'm glad it looks like it's going to be OK, it's totally frustrating not knowing what to do, but I think you did the right thing and I think he's a smart enough kid to know whether or not it was serious enough that he needed to be seen!

What you go through with him and NSAID's is exactly what I go through with my daughter and any type of cough syrup, she immediately throws up!

So glad to hear he is better. At least he gotta be if he's talking about doing the lawn right? :)

So glad your son is doing better. Hey, I must be one of those "opinionated" people of whom you speak, eh? LOL No matter, just glad it turned out he wasn't hurt very badly. I think I got some instant Karma out of it. I was shaking out a dryer sheet to throw it in the machine and whacked my right index finger on the edge of the dryer. OUCH! Still sore too.
