My Single Mom Life: I hate terrazzo flooring!

I hate terrazzo flooring!

I forget how much I dislike terrazzo flooring every year until winter rolls around.
During the summer, it's great stuff, it stays nice and cool on super hot days, but come winter, that nice cool terrazzo flooring becomes as cold as ice, and it doesn't even get that cold here.
I've decided that at some point, I'm going to buy a few small area rugs for the kitchen and bathroom floors, maybe a runner for the hallway, so it's not so cold on my feet.

I know what you're thinking, I could just wear socks right?
Well I could except for 2 reasons.
1. I can't get socks on anymore at all.
After 2 spine surgeries, I am no longer capable of putting on socks or tying shoes, or taking care of my toenails. (need some generic visa or amex gift cards for xmas dearest family, to get pedicures all year long)
2. I don't like socks, never have.
And one of the most hated parts of being in the hospital is being forced to wear socks during the entire stay.
They force you to wear socks even while lying there in a medically induced coma for 4 days, they put socks on you, and every time you take them off by scraping your feet down your legs and pulling them off with your toes, some well meaning nurse comes along to take your temperature, finds your socks on the floor, and slips them back on your feet.
Over and over and over, the entire length of your hospital stay.
I would wake up, find my feet sweltering hot, and start the leg scraping and toe grabbing to try and get them off.
Just as I would get them off and slip my feet out from under the covers, a nurse would come in and put them back on against my very verbal protests to not suffocate my feet again.
Gah!
So yeah, I want to buy a few area rugs so I don't have to step on the cold terrazzo floors during a 3am pee.

Comments

I'd be ready to kill whoever was forcing me to wear socks. I absolutely hate them, and I refuse to wear them unless I absolutely have to.

My Grandma is always calling and yelling at me when she spots me taking the dog outside in the mornings in 30 degree temps with flip flops on, but what's a girl to do? It takes too long to put on shoes!

Just a suggestion, but we keep a bath mat on each side of our bed since we have linoleum throughout the whole house. I could put down real rugs, but the bathmats are cheap and squishy, so they feel really good when you throw your feet out of bed in the morning.
