My Single Mom Life: Short, mid-season shows suck.

Short, mid-season shows suck.

I'm part of the ABC network's "Inner Circle" opinion panel, and they start discussions about all of their ongoing shows, upcoming shows, specials, etc etc, and want to know what we think.
They say that it helps them decide what programming to air, what kinds of shows, family, adults only, and what times to air certain shows.
For 2 years now, many of us have been telling them that we hate the mid-season shows that they do, and they aren't listening, so I thought I'd put it out here and ask all of you what you think.
A lot of the members have spoken up about the mid-season shows, but they just don't seem to be hearing us.

Another member said the following just a few days ago;

I haven't seen anything I like coming mid-season.
I remember when there wasn't a "Mid-Season" and shows went from September to May.
I am ancient. ;)
Not really, but I am wondering if you are over 50 if your opinion even counts here?
Really, I wonder.

The ABC moderator named Josh said;
Everybody's opinion counts here! This community helps to understand what our viewers actually want from ABC. We love hearing from you!

And I chimed in with this;
I am 38 and I remember the September to May seasons too.
I HATE this small and mid-season crap!!
We get like 5-8 episodes of a show for a whole year, it honestly sucks.
I don't know whose idea it was, but it's truly awful.
Just when a plot line gets going, nope! Come back next September, but hey, starting in January, you can watch 6 new episodes of LOST & then repeats, and that's the whole show for the whole year.
Sorry ABC, the very small and mid-season stuff is for the birds.
I cannot stand watching a show, getting into it, and then having to wait 6-7 months for it to come back. By the time LOST starts up again, me and my family are no longer interested. Honestly, we won't be watching because it's a mid-season, short season show.
I want my all year long seasons back, and I bet I am not alone in that.
I may have to blog about this to see how others feel.

How many of you started watching LOST that first season, really got into it, and then in season 2, they ended the show the first week of November, and brought it back the first week of January?
Season 3 didn't start until October, it ended the first week of November, and they didn't bring it back until the first week of February.
Season, 4, started in January, and ended in May. (That page is ultra confusing, the episodes are last to first.
And that's what they are doing again in 2009, starting in January and ending in April or May.
So far, 12 episodes are scheduled, but the whole schedule is listed as "tentative", meaning it's free to change at any time.

The first season had 24 episodes, second season had 23, third season had 22, and last season, 4, had only 13.
There are only 12 shows scheduled for this new season which doesn't even start until January 21st.
What is the point of even watching this show anymore if each season gets shorter and shorter, and starts later and later, and ends even sooner?

The creators have said that there will only be 6 seasons of this show, they want to end it on a good and solid note, but with each season being smaller, is there even going to be an audience to watch it end?
Sure, the die-hard fans will be watching, but I bet more than 1/2 of the people who watched in season 1 aren't still watching, I know we pretty much gave up in the middle of season 3, when they started it in October, ended in November, and brought it back in February to end it in May.
We couldn't keep up with the constantly changing schedule, and the recaps were a total pain in the ass.
Every time they took a long break, they had to do a recap show to catch viewers up because they had left us all on a HUGE cliffhanger, yet most of us forgot what the hell was going on!

ABC does this with a few other shows too, they take really long breaks in the middle of winter, and come back in late January or February.
When shows do that, it's really hard to keep up with the stories, the characters, the whole thing, and the shows lose viewers.

So my question to you all is, do you want regular September/October to May, full seasons back, or do you like this split shifting, short, mid-season stuff they do with some of their shows?
Let me know and I'll post all of your replies when I login to the "Inner Circle" again and maybe they will actually listen.

That is exactly why Chris and I have stopped watching ABC all together! So until they go back to the original seasons we won't be going back to ABC.

I will give ABC credit for keeping 'Scrubs' on the air for a proper last season. The BS that NBC gave us was pathetic. The 'last episode' was horrible and OUT OF SEQUENCE. How stupid does NBC think we are?

Add me to the list of people who have given up on shows like that. It was at the point that LOST was the only ABC show that I was actually watching, but I'm not sure if we'll keep up with it if it does something like that again.
I really dislike the mess they put us through with it, and such a short season is really lame. Why not just show us the whole thing this season with another full 24 episodes rather than dragging it out? It's such a tease and it builds things up for more and more let downs. I've been so frustrated with several stations and shows that have been doing things like that.

I've been really excited for another stations show "Dollhouse" which was supposed to be coming out and I figured it would start up already, but it turns out they're not showing it until MARCH! Everywhere is doing it, it's so annoying.

I left ABC for the same reason. I returned ONLY for Pushing Daisies because it's such an absolutely incredible show, but here they are canceling that. So no, ABC and its ridiculous idea of what a 'season' entails has nothing for me.

I dont watch regular tv for that reason, give me a few new episodes and then weeks of repeats or specials... I want the regular seasons back that start in september and end in may... Oh and lets gets some real shows and not all these reality shows... I am so sick of those...

We really don't watch much network TV anymore because of the stupid short seasons. I want to watch a show from September to May & then only have to worry about repeats in the summer when I'm not watching TV anyway.
