I don't need this crap right now.

I am dealing with so much right now, people who are not following links like this one have no idea what I'm dealing with.
But it would be really nice if people would try to take other people's feelings and lives into consideration before they bring someone into something they want no part of, nor do they have time to be dealing with.

But in case people are too lazy to follow links, here's the breakdown.
In 30 days, on September 8th, a Monday morning, I'm having a major surgery.
I have 30 days to get my life in order, to make sure all of my bills are caught up, to try and earn as much as I can so that when I come home, if I come home, I have money to keep paying those bills while I recover.
I have to make plans for my sons to be taken care of, I have to also get them ready to go back to school.
I have to find out if I can have a home health aide to help me so my oldest son won't be leaving school to take care of me because he's worried about me, and failing school again.
I have a mountain of pre-surgical testing to do.
People don't understand that I am way too busy, and mentally, I have so much on my plate I'm going crazy.
Every time I have a surgery, because I'm a single parent, I have to sign a DNR and verify my will in front of an attorney, so that if I die during surgery, my kids will be given to the right people, my affairs will be taken care of.
I have 30 days to accept that my life may possibly end.
30 days to tell my sons I love them.
30 days to make sure that my 38 years on this planet have meant something, that it wasn't a complete waste.
30 days to make sure all my family and friends know how much I love them and how much them being a part of my life has meant to me.
30 days to accept my own mortality.

There are people who need to get a new hobby, take up knitting or scrap-booking, spend more time with their own families, buy some golf equipment and learn how to play, take up bowling or something, just do something else other than drag people into something they want no part of.
I've asked nicely, I've said please, but they don't think it's that big of a deal.
It is a big deal to me because it's over, it's been over with for a very long time, and it's not fair, it's not right, that once again, I'm dealing with that crap.
I have a life I'm trying to live in 30 days.
They should try it sometime.

It's a bit of a challenge.

First, I just want to give a screaming loud shout of thanks to Christine for installing MT version 4.12 for me over on my new blog.
It still doesn't have a name yet, but battles were never won in just a few short hours!

I swear, getting a whole new blog and an upgraded CMS, is like buying tons and tons of discount furniture and trying to cram it all into a tiny little house.
You just had to have it because the price was so dang good, but now it's going to take a few days to fit it all in the house the right way.
Version 4.12 is not like the version of MT this blog uses.
This one is still using 3.35, and I'm completely used to it, it's like a perfect fitting glove.
4.12 does things a whole lot different, and it's going to take me a few days, or a few weeks, to get the hang of just what it is they've done with everything.
For the life of me, I cannot switch up the sidebars.
I messed with it for like 2 hours I think, and got nowhere.
Oh well.
I will have plenty of time tomorrow to learn things.

Sebastian decided to go home with my sister tonight because Matthew has invited him back over to play again tomorrow, and it's just easier for Jo to take him home with her, than it is to try and pick him up really early in the morning again.
He will be home tomorrow night though.

Mark and I went and did the shopping, ate dinner, and watched a bit of tv, and now he's playing his video games again.
It's all good, he earned that play time tonight.
He picked up, carried, and put away all the heavy stuff from shopping, and then he changed out the litter boxes, took out the trash and recycles without me asking him to do any of it, so yeah, play on young man, play on!

Ok, I really need to go catch up on some work and stuff, and then maybe try and learn some more new stuff.
Later days!

SEO Optimization and blogs.

It seems like everybody on line knows at least a little about SEO, and those that don't, know they want to because they want to make money.
I'm making some changes to this blog over the next few days and weeks ahead, so I've been doing a little reading on this subject tonight in between doing other things I have to do.
I promise, when I get ready to do these changes, I will let you all know.
I'm not shutting down or going on an extended hiatus, but I'm making some big changes that I think have been needed for awhile.

There are a lot of companies out there I've come across that promise you SEO results, and I know some people who paid a few different companies to increase their SEO, and promised to help drive traffic and sales to their websites, only to be ripped off.
They never saw an increase in traffic, so obviously what was promised didn't work out, and they lost thousands of dollars.
Not even making back what they paid for the service, and feeling very let down.

A way to know if the company you're going to use knows their stuff, is if they offer you a free SEO report, have plenty of information available for free for you too read, and they just have a ton of resources and links on their site for you to check out before you invest.
There's a San Diego SEO Company by the name of Best Rank, that has all of that for potential clients to check out.
Heck, they even have a blog just like most of us have, where they talk about what they do, what they are working on, and even some of the issues they have had while working for a client.
They are honest, which I find refreshing in this industry.
You really should check out their blog and read the June 9th entry.
They had some serious issues with a client's site, and had to really dig deep to find out what the problem was.
Not only was it cool to see how they were honest about the issue, but also how they resolved it.
I learned a lot from just that one entry.

What the heck are you looking for?!

Every now and then I like to go through my stats and see all the various search terms that bring people to my blog.
Here's some of the unusual and funny search terms.

original little mermaid cover (people like the phallic cover)
bbbbbbbbb (um, yeah)
sims having sex (they can and they do)
Las Vegas travel I was going to go to Blogasm '08, but my plans fell through.
mumenshantz. I still have the piece of art Mark made.
check n go florida settlement. This still hasn't been settled yet.
dry nail strip. These really do rock.
the walrus and the carpenter were able to get the oysters to trust them based on promises they made to the oysters then in the end they ate them. like politicians. (Dogma)
ex girlfriend child support maine 2008 may maine may (No, I'm the ex-wife, and the hearing is now July 16th, but thanks for checking on me current girlfriend. That's so sweet of you!)
i believe license plate. Shot down by the senate! W00t!
infant swimming resources. Every parent with a pool should teach their kids to swim.

And curiously, the most searched for keyword coming in at over 100 searches;
stick figures. I have no idea why people search for that so much.

Saturday play day.

This afternoon, my sister is taking the teens to the movies to go see Narnia, Prince Caspian, and I'm going to hang out here at home with my most awesome niece, Susan, and play games and stuff.
Susan really likes playing games on the computer, so I have a couple of kid related websites that she already knows how to do, and we're going to play some games on those, color, read books and maybe watch a movie ourselves.
I love it when she comes to spend time with me!
She and I get along so well, and she's so much fun and silly, it makes me happy.

After the movie, the teens will be going back to my sister's house for the night, and will come back in the morning because sis has to work.
Did I tell you my sister has a blog?
She just started it in January, she doesn't update it much, *ahem* but she writes some pretty interesting stuff when she does.
You can check her out at Jo's Mojo.
She has a few pictures up, the girls, and their new kitty Binky who is just so cute!
I love that kitty!

I was going through my stats last night, I like seeing where my visitors come from, how they find me, and I found a link to my local area news website, WWSB.
I was all hrm, why is the local news linking to my blog?
Then I saw that the link went to a subsection they have for blogs, and I'm one of just 6 local blogs they have featured there.
Pretty cool!
So thanks WWSB, I appreciate the link back and being featured.

Ok, time for me to get moving and clean up a few things before Susan gets here.
I need to get the coloring supplies out, and the story books, and the movies she likes to watch.
I also need to throw some laundry in and do the dishes.
I may hold off on the dishes.
Doing dishes sucks.

What do ya know? I'm blog of the day!

See that? You can click it for bigger, but it says that I am blog of the day for the triple P paid to blog company.
Funny thing though, I haven't worked for them since October 2007, and I left on very bad terms having a back and forth with their "customer love" department about all my issues with their company, and asking them to completely remove all traces of me from their system.
I did not want to be linked to from any part of their site, and I was assured they had removed every single link they had to me from every part of their site.
Promised actually.

But there I am, blog of the day.
How the hell am I blog of the day?
I have not taken a single post for them since the end of September and got my last payment from them in October.
It's gotta be a random selection because it's most certainly not based on me taking any posts, I haven't.
I am not the top earner, middle earner, or even low man on the totem pole, because I don't work for them.

I don't have the ability to even login to their sites anymore, so how did I find out I was blog of the day?
Several people emailed me screenshots of it.
Some of them were like "I hate to be the bearer of bad news because they promised you they removed you from the system, but obviously they lied."
Someone else said "Holy shit Kat! Don't get too pissed!"
And another simply said "LMAO! Idiots!"

Exactly my thoughts.
Idiots.

So if you're coming here from the blog of the day link on the triple P site, no I don't work for them, haven't in a very long time now, and they are clearly not people of their word.
They do not remove anyone from the system or site even if they promise you they do.
They keep every single blogger in there so their numbers of users is as big as it is to impress adverts with.
They can say they have over 100,000 bloggers, but how many of them are like me?
No longer working for them and asked to be removed from their site?
I'm guessing a lot.

I'm not mad I'm still in the system, I'm just very disappointed they lied to me about removing me.

Hackers and spammers.

I was just sent a password reminder from Stumble Upon.
I didn't request it.
Luckily for me, SU sends the actual account holder the password reminder, and not the hacker who actually wants the access.
It might be a good idea to go and change your SU passwords people.
As soon as I got that email, that's what I did.
________________________

Now onto the spammers.
My blog is a do follow blog, I like that my readers and faithful commenter's can get some link love back from the search engines when they leave me comments.
It's the nice thing to do.

What I don't like is when a blogger who does not actually read my blog, leaves a one liner comment, and a link to their site in the url field to a particular category of their blog they want the do follow love on.

Now what's funny is, that I have one blogger who has been doing this for several months, and the really amusing part is the comment rules on their own site.

Comments on this blog are made DOFOLLOW and are moderated. Spam will not be tolerated and the following will be cause for removal:

* using a "Keyword" name or just wanting a backlink
* posting for commercial links
* urls to commercial blogs listed as your site address
* posting url's in your comment

The emphasis is mine.
See how it says it will be considered spam if someone is just commenting for the back link?
Well, this person has those rules on their blog, but they come to my blog and do it all the time.
They leave links to the many blogs they just started and need link backs for, they try to promote a category they want bumped by the search engines, they leave the url to a specific post they want to promote.

Look, if you don't allow it on your blog, why the hell are you doing it on mine?
I edit out all of your links, haven't you caught on to that yet?
I delete anything after the .com when you post a long url to a category or post you want promoted.
If you leave a link to a new blog you just started, I delete the entire url.
I've had it with your policy of it's not allowed on your blog but you'll do it on mine.

You know damn well who you are too Miss Tackle it Tuesday.
You're not a faithful reader or commenter, you do it strictly for the links.
I'm not on any of your blogrolls, I'm not on your RSS feed reader, and you're not on mine, but you seem to think it's totally ok to take advantage of my do follow.
From now on, any url you leave, even if it is just to your homepage, it will be deleted.

My do follow kindness is for my faithful readers, friends, people who have been reading my blog for years, don't judge me, actually know me, share their lives with me and vice versa, talk daily in emails, laugh out loud with each other on forums, care about each other and our families.
I don't read your blog, you don't read mine.
You read the very first post at the top, leave a one liner like "oh, feel better", and then use the url field to link up whatever it is you're trying to promote.
I'm not here for you to take advantage of when you don't actually read my blog on a daily or even weekly basis.
You and I have absolutely no blogging interaction with, and haven't had any for months, like October 2007.
Yeah, that's when I quit blogging for that company and quit posting on those forums.
You're not a member of any of the other forums I'm part of, we don't communicate with each other, and your blatant attempts to take advantage of my do follow, is grating on my last nerve.
Any and all links you place in the url field or comment field, will be stripped out.
I'm done with you.

Feed oh feed, oh where did you go?

The massage was nice, weird, but nice.
I haven't had a real back massage in ages because my back has had some major issues, and it sort of still does, so it's just weird for me.

We did some range of motion tests first, to find the areas he needs to work on, and then it was time to remove my shirt, bra, and shorts, and get under the sheet, face down.
Um what?
See folks, years since I've had a real back massage.
I am pretty sure I almost bolted when he said to pretty much strip.
Yes, it was a 'he', so yeah, that made it even weirder for me.
I can't explain why, I'm just a freak.
I mean, do you have any idea how many people have seen all my girly bits in the last few years?
Tons of them!
And here I am all freaked out by one male masseuse.
Sheesh.

So I do what he said, and my back is hypersensitive, I warn him of this, and he gets to work.
I thought I was gonna freak out.
Pins and needles galore!
But he put some numbing cream on my back, and after a few minutes, all better.
Then he did some deep tissue massage which is kinda painful.
Owie.
But my hip does feel better, my lower back is feeling not too bad either.
When I got up after the hour long session, my neck and entire back, snap, crackled and popped, like a box of rice krispies.

I came home, did my 20 minutes on the elliptical, answered some emails and posted a few places, and now I'm gonna get some lunch.
And then I'm going to attempt to figure out where my feed went.
It's vanished yo.
Maybe all the posts will show up at once again, who knows.

RSS feed issues and the sleep deprived.

Just want to say sorry if you ended up getting like 15 feeds from me all at once, a few minutes ago.
I was trying to fix something in my xml source, and when I did, it caused feedburner to send out my last 15 posts all at once, at 11:07pm.
Really sorry about that.

Something happened where some of my posts showed up in my feed reader as just content summaries, and others were the full posts.
I went in and fixed the issue, but then it shot out all those posts.
I gasped like wicked loud, and screamed too.
"Oh no! That's like major post floodage! Ack!"

Sebastian asked why I screamed, I tell him, and he goes "Mom, you're such a freaking nerd. Step away from the box every now and then ok?"
So I said to him; "Yeah buddy, you step away from the xbox for a whole day, and I'll step away from my desk for a whole day. Deal?"
He says; "Are you crazy?!?"
"Uh-huh, just what I thought, now shush boy!"
He laughed and went back to getting his back pack ready for school tomorrow.

And speaking of school tomorrow, please oh please, do not let what happened this morning happen again tomorrow morning.
As I said on Sunday, I haven't gotten much sleep.
Last night, it caught up with me, so when the alarm went off this morning, I rolled over, turned on my lava lamp, shut off the alarm, and dozed back to sleep.
I woke in a jolting panic just a few minutes later, but damn, what if I hadn't?
I would have woken up hours later probably, and the kids would have totally missed school.
If they are later than 9am, they are not allowed to go to school that day unless they have a doctors note as the reason they were late, like an early morning appointment is the only valid excuse for being later than 9am.
I now have set both my radio alarm clock and my cell phone alarm, in hopes that if it does happen again, one or the other alarm, will wake me again so they can get out of here and go to school.
Not only do they need to go to school, but I need them to go for my own sanity.

Contextual linking.

I know most of my readers know that I insert contextual links for pay in my blog posts.
I write my posts, then go look at the list of possible links to see what will fit with what I've already written.
It is in my privacy policy, so I know people know I do this.
I'm glad my readers know, I like being upfront about it, it's a good thing that you know.
Sometimes the links are a bit out there, sometimes they are for vacation places or other things like
swing sets or shoes or whatever.
I'm glad that my readers can pick them out, but it kind of irks me when someone constantly picks them out, makes a big deal out of spotting them.
This isn't a game to see who can find the most contextual links with the one finding the most getting a prize.
They just are what they are.
If it bothers someone, I wish they'd speak up instead of being passive aggressive about it.
Maybe they aren't really being passive aggressive, but that's how it feels.
I feel like every time I open the comments up, I have to defend my posts.
I have neighbors who every time something goes wrong, the husband starts flipping out and yelling about moving to a new state or buying land and building his own house somewhere on that land.
I've heard them yell back and forth over about 13 different states to move to in the last 6 months.
Pissed off at Comcast or Verizon, or the weather, and omg, let the state name dropping begin.
It truly is comical, and next time he starts up, I'll be sure to record it so you can hear the absurdity of it.
Tonight, her car broke down, their son has been here since 2:45 this afternoon. She called him to come help her and here it is 8:00pm, and he still has not gone down there to get her.
She keeps calling me up crying, she starts yelling about how much she hates him and can't wait till she gets her money cuz guess what?
She's buying a new car, packing it up, and moving to Idaho.
Is she really?
I don't know, but that's what I listen to every single time there is some kind of problem.
So yeah, I know this stuff sounds crazy, but it is what it is.

How did you find my blog?

I was doing some stat watching tonight, and one of the fun things about doing that is that you get to see how your visitors found your blog.
I love looking through the search terms to see what brought them here.

In no particular order, here are the most searched keywords that brought people here so far in the month of January.

original little mermaid movie cover
stick figures
term life insurance quotes
check n go lawsuit
fuck math
milk phobia
no on 1 florida

That's just a small sample of searches that helped people find their way here. I hope they were happy with the results they found.
I can't post some of the other searches because then I'll just get more of those searches, and trust me, I do not have what they are looking for.

The spammers are out in force tonight.

In a matter of 3 minutes, I got over 45 spam comments.
I briefly removed the ability to comment, and may have to do it again if it starts up again.
I am just letting you all know why you may not be able to post any comments over night.
That's probably the safe way to go, just shut them off at night.
I don't want my hosting company taking my site off line because of a spam attack.
They've done it before, and I freaked out cuz my site was down, but I understand why they did it.
So anyway, I may turn comments off over night to stop the spam attack.

I apologize in advance.

I have so much to do here, I have some posts that I need to get written ASAP, and I was trying very hard not to flood you all, but I am running out of time thanks to the latest events in my life.
I need to get them done, they will still all be about me posts, but you know.

I am sorry for my outbursts.
I am sorry for anyone who may have had to deal with my wrath today, but man, I have felt like a circus dog for weeks now, jumping through hoop after hoop for this doctor, only to have him turn around and drop me as his patient because I couldn't get appointments as fast as he wanted me to.
I am beyond angry at him.
He's put me through so much stress, so much stress, it felt like I was going to have a heart attack a few times, that my head would explode.
Stress makes me sick, I have been sick for weeks on end trying to get all of this done, and he was unsatisfied with my human abilities to force people to give me immediate appointments.
I am just so sorry to anyone who has had to deal with me and my stress issues.
I have work to do, things to take care of because I need that money.
I've paid out more money than I could rightfully afford to pay, and it's financially killed me.
It will take me weeks to recover from the amount I have lost.

So anyway, there may end up being 4 back to back posts done this evening.
I have to get them done, no choice.
I apologize if this upsets anyone, but hey, at least I don't work for the post Nazis anymore.
They can't penalize me for doing what I need to do on my own blog.
Every cloud does have a silver lining, you just have to find it.

So so much work to do.

I have a lot of work to do and complete by Monday morning, and all I want to do is sit and stare at where the tv stands to play GH3.
I want to learn to play it.
I will learn to play it.
I will be a rock god if it kills me.
I refuse to just forfeit the competition and hand over $20.
One way or another, I will learn to play it and be awesome enough at it to whoop the kids butts on Thanksgiving day.

I tried for a few hours this afternoon with the guitar controller, and really, it just isn't happening that way.
It's not a normal way to play guitar at all.
When the kids go to school tomorrow, I will give it a shot with the controller for a bit, then get back to work.
I have quite a few assignments I need to get done if I want an awesome payout on the 9th, which I do.
I need to have a killer payout that day.
I have to catch up on a few things, and be able to pay all those co-pays to all the new doctors I have to go to.

Late and stressed.

I'm getting such a late start to my day here. I was up very late dealing with annoying behavior. I will never understand why some people take everything so damn personal and as an attack on them, when it clearly wasn't. But some people are all me me me, and can't see the bigger picture.

Found an interesting search hit last night, golf apparel ladies. I think I've only mentioned women's golf here once, so no idea how that hit came to be.

I went for my walk, took way longer than usual. I just felt like walking and walking, ended up being gone for close to 2 hours.
I really need a pedometer so I can figure out how many miles I'm walking rather than a time frame.
I know certain routes mileage, but not the way I went today. I need to calculate it and figure that out.

I'm waiting on UPS to either show up, or update my tracking for GH3. It has not been updated since the 26th, and all it says is that it's in transit to Jacksonville.
Bah.
I have a wicked migraine because I smelled some products that were so full of scent, and some of them were scents I'm highly allergic to like cinnamon and vanilla.
I almost barfed from coughing so much.
I need to lay down and get rid of this migraine, maybe eat something, not sure.
I also need to answer some emails and stuff.
I know this post is a jumble of thoughts, I apologize, but my head is pounding.
Later days.

Google still spanking sites down.

We thought yesterday was the end of it, but no, Google was still at it today smacking a lot of sites down, putting some sites back where they were.
It seems they are adjusting their rankings, and as ProBlogger has noticed, not quite fairly.
Some sites selling links, punished, and some not.
Some sites that never sold links have been punished too.
You can submit to Google and ask them to reconsider, but a lot of sites just aren't bothering.

Most bloggers that I know have started just taking action, making plans to just be better bloggers, write better content, get more inbound links.
One of the things I did notice, is that Google has wiped out all of my backlinks within the last 15 minutes.
Whether or not those are coming back, I don't know, but I do know they aren't done messing with my page rank yet.
But you know what?
Big deal.
It's just Google page rank, it doesn't really mean all that much in the larger scheme of things, for me personally.
I have a life to live here, health issues to deal with, children to raise, things that are far more important than whether or not Google thinks I'm a number.
I'm just going to keep on blogging as usual, write out the details of my life, and keep going.
If I let a number determine who I am, well that's just silly.

Remember this post about no longer working for a company?
I said I wouldn't ever delete any posts on my blog, it was my own policy, well anyway, I have deleted all 179 of those posts.
I did it about 2 weeks ago, meant to post this sooner, and because I want to really stand by my statement of disclosure, I felt the need to tell you those posts have all been removed.

Something came up, a concern among a few of us, and I chose to delete all those entries.
I did lose a lot of personal stuff I wrote in those posts, but it's ok, I have the memories of those things in my head, and that's good enough for me.

I have a book to give a way, it's called Knock Yourself Up: No Man? No Problem: A Tell-All Guide to Becoming a Single Mom, it was sent to me directly from the publishers, the Penguin Group, who thought my readers may be interested in it.
This book hasn't been released yet (will be released on October 18th), so you'd be getting a brand new preview copy.

Book description;

More and more women are choosing not to let being single stand in the way of becoming a mom. In this honest and often hilarious guide, Louise Sloan shares the details of her own funny and heartbreaking journey to single motherhood-including cyberstalking an anonymous sperm donor, dealing with exploding semen vials, and being mistaken for a horse breeder-as well as the experiences of many other women across the country. Knock Yourself Up offers an inside look at the logistical and legal processes of opting for single motherhood, drawing on the personal stories of women who have done it. Addressing a range of topics such as coping with loneliness, financial struggles, complex reactions of family members, and more, Knock Yourself Up covers the emotional and practical issues and provides the kind of intimate answers you won't find anywhere else to questions like:

- When is the right time to decide to have a baby alone?
- How do I choose the right sperm?
- Is this fair to the kid?
- How do I tell my parents?
- How do I tell my dates?
- What's it like to be pregnant on your own?
- If I do this, will I ever have sex-or a life-again?

Informative and entertaining, Knock Yourself Up is a fun-to-read, up-to-date guide for any woman who is considering taking the baby plunge, with inspiring stories from women who have created happy families on their own.

This is going to be a super fast give away, if you are interested in getting this book, just leave a comment below, I will draw a winner tomorrow morning, (Tuesday), and mail it out on Wednesday.

I read through a few of the chapters when I received it on Saturday, and it is a very entertaining read, so if you would like to have this, just leave a comment.
Sorry, this is only open to US and Canadian residents, I simply can't ship anywhere else.

There is also a new Guess the movie posted on Twisted Psycho.

Disclosure.

I have always been upfront with my readers about the things I do here on this blog to make money, and because of the previous post, my disclosure policy is now updated to accurately reflect just how I make that money.
If you would like to know what types of advertising I do, please read the updated disclosure policy, found at the top of my sidebar.

And thanks to Jill at Chimommy, I have all new disclosure policy buttons.
A few of us asked if anyone could make a new button, and she made a whole bunch.
What's funny is, we didn't request any specific colors, but all of the buttons she made, match all of my skins perfectly.

Thanks Jill!

No more ties.

Awhile ago, I told you I had taken a leave of absence from a paid to blog company, but didn't tell you who.
I finally received my last payment from them today, they owe me nothing, I owe them nothing, no more ties.
I no longer work for them.
I feel like I can tell you who and why now.

I no longer work for PayPerPost, due to the constantly changing ToS, and the direction the company is going.
I no longer feel comfortable working for them, I've actually felt pretty scummy for some time now.
When I started, I needed the money badly, I had bills to pay, kids to take care of, and it was far too easy to make money. I knew some of the things I was posting about weren't subjects I normally would have, so I pulled back, really tried to just post about things I knew about, products or sites I had used, I was trying to feel better about what I had done.
I do feel bad, the money was screaming my name and I took it.

But after many incidents with their customer love department, bloggers being accused of violating a constantly changing ToS that we were never told about, advertisers having to pay for truly shiteous blog posts, serious questions being ignored, and the constant problems with the system itself from major site lags which caused our sites to load slowly, to users not being able to use the captchas, to bloggers being accused of cheating, favoritism accusations, programs failing, and the constant stream of complaints from the bloggers to fix the system and it all fell on deaf ears most of the time.
Even with the super new and improved system Argus or Izea, whatever they are calling it now, being deployed in November, I quit.
Maybe the new system will be fucking fantabulous, but I no longer feel like I can work for a company that treated people the way they did, and the constant problems they have.
We were told so many times that our blogs were our own, but they kept changing that ToS to include little things that made us change how we blogged, and I don't like how the new system is set up. What I saw, and the little bits they keep talking about vaguely, makes me happy I got out now. I don't like the RSS feed thing they have which pulls keywords out of our posts, breaks down our posts into easy to read blurbs.
I don't write my posts to have them hacked apart by that thing.
I write them to be read as they are.

It was a very tough decision to quit working for them. I have bills to pay, kids to care for, but no amount of money could make me feel good about myself anymore.
I'd rather be broke and struggle, than to feel like shit inside.
I know I stand a great chance of a lot of back lash from them and the bloggers who still work for them because of this post, but I haven't violated the NDA I signed about the new system Argus, which I only saw small parts of anyway, and I haven't done anything wrong except state my reasons for leaving.
Call it drama, call it hate, whatever.
But I felt like I owed it to my readers to be truthful about it.
I had encouraged fellow blogging friends to sign up with them, and I feel bad about that.
Some of the people I encouraged to sign up, never went to the forums there to see what was going on, they never read the constant complaints, they don't know about all the bad press all the time, they never got see the 28 page long threads about the changing ToS, hell, I don't even know if they know there are things they can't do anymore, but as was said to us bloggers, it's our job to read the ToS for changes.

One of the biggest reasons I left though, was what they did to my friend Christine.
Back in April, she won a contest they had to go to postiecon when it was to be in Orlando.
Then they changed the venue to Vegas, but still said she was going.
Postiecon is next month, November 8th through 10th, and they still have not contacted her about her prize which was supposed to include airfare, a hotel room, and a car rental, as well as full access to postiecon and several segments of Blogworld.
She emailed the contact person at PPP several times, she private messaged them on the forums, and the only answers they ever gave her were, "I'll look into it and get back to you."
No one ever did, and postiecon is next month.
That bothers me a lot.
She wrote the most awesome entry for the contest, it took her days to complete it because she used her paper crafting skills to do it, die cuts and stamps, she wrote an awesome story.
It really bothers me that she won it fair and square, was promised the trip, and they still haven't made any arrangements for her or even gotten back to her about it.
Even if they get back to her now, she won't be going. She made other vacation plans because they wasted so much time not fulfilling their word.
But to me, that's par for the course.

All of their buttons and badges have been removed, the site tracking codes they had us install for certain posts. I am leaving all the entries I wrote for them here though.
I took a contract out with each and every one of those advertisers, and even though it was only a 30 days long contract to leave the posts on my blog, I never delete posts, and I owe it to them to leave them up. The advertisers themselves are not who I have issues with.

So anyway, I feel badly about how I let money rule me for almost a year. I let it take control of me and this blog, I posted about things I shouldn't have because money was too easy to make, and I needed it.
I let my readers down and I'm sorry for that.

Pink for October.

This blog is capable of skins, you can pretty much choose from 9 different ones, but I had a new banner designed for my Pink for October skin, by Belle of Devilish Southern Belle.

You can choose the new pink skin here; Skin 8.

I've been helping out as a photo editor volunteer for the last 2 years, and I've been sending my 'girls' in for the last 4, this being year 5 that I have sent them in, so we have a new banner, Proudly Saving the Boobies Since 2003.
Thanks so much Belle for doing such a great job on it!

Don't forget, the Boobiethon runs till October 8th, so you too can help out by sending in a pic of your lovelies, or donating some money. Our goal this year is $10,000, and I know we can do it!

I'm officially that mother.

Stephen came over for a few hours this afternoon, and he and Sebastian called Stephen's mom, to see if he could spend the night.
No.
It's always no.
His mom was all no, "You will be in bed at 9pm, and that mother, lets her sons stay up far too late. They are just children!"

Seriously people, if you're going to be bitching about another mother's parenting skills, you might want to not yell over the phone to your kid, when he's sitting on the couch next to said mother, while he's at said mother's home.
Just sayin'.

After he left at 5:30, we declared it breakfast for dinner night, and we each had a bowl of cereal.
I love breakfast for dinner!
And it's cool they wanted cereal for dinner, because my back and shoulder are seriously flared after the other days moving of furniture.

And I totally thought I had the tag thing working, and it was mostly working, except it added the same tags to every post, and well, that's not how it's supposed to go.
Back to the blog drawing board!
*EDIT*
I got the tag thingy to work! Go me!

New Amazon widgets.

I'm really liking the new Amazon widgets for associates, and even for website owners who wish to add their wish lists to their blogs.

This is the new wish list widget.
It's small, fully customizable, and is better than the traditional text link that we've had for wish lists for years.
Now, people can see your list, and the products you like, right from your site, and click on it if they choose for more information.
It's pretty snazzy if you ask me.

He may stay there.

Sebastian still isn't home, and called a little bit ago, asking if he could just sleep over his friends house.
I'm all dude, be my guest.
I love the little bugger, but sometimes I need a break and it's been quite awhile since I've left the house, so they can. *LOL*

Mark is just chilin' with the video games, and I'm just sitting here chillin' out.
It's another rainy, humid day out there, dark, so it's obviously lazy slacker day, but I did give myself my weekly shot.
Ouchies.

Is the background too much? Too busy? Does it draw away from the post section?
I know I said I wasn't going to mess with it, but if it's too "busy", I'll yank it.
I was so tired by the time I finished it, I didn't even think about how my readers may not want a patterned background.

Mom! Dad! I got the Fogleburg cds and the coupons, thank you!
Anyway, not much else happening.
Later days.

September 22, 2007

Hope that's better.

I often get emails or comments from people telling me that there's a huge gap between my post section and my sidebar.
It was done intentionally.
This blog used a fluid positioning, rather than a fixed one, because my parents had webtv, and webtv was only 640x480, and there is no horizontal scroll in webtv. (deja vu from like 4 years ago)
My folks have since gotten a laptop and when I was up there in February, I set them at 1024x768.

Anyway, I still have fluid positioning, but I widened the post column so it's not quite such a huge gap, unless of course you're using a resolution larger than 1024x768.
I checked in with Google analytics, and 49.41% of my visitors use 1024x768, and all the higher resolution users, are very small numbers of people.
I mean, we're talking numbers like 2.68% and 1.62%, and 0.74%.
I still have more people using 800x600, than I do people using super high resolutions.
It goes from 49.41% using 1024x768, to 13.49% still using 800x600, and then the super high resolutions are way way down there in readers.

One of the ways to check and see that it's still fluid for the people using 800x600, is to copy and paste this into your browser, javascript:void(window.resizeTo(800,600)) then click go.
If you're already on my blog, you'll see that the columns shrink down, and there remains a small gap between the post and sidebar section.
You can also take that line of code and use it on your own blogs to see how much people have to scroll if they are using a smaller resolution than you do.
We make our blogs for us, but they should be readable without having to scroll so much for our readers.
Just go to your blog, then paste that in the browser, then click go.
You'll be able to see if your lower resolution than you readers are having to scroll to see your whole blog. Then check out your stats and see what resolutions your visitors are coming from .

I can't please everyone, but if most of my readers are on 1024x768 and 800x600, then I know that my blog looks fine to them.
If at some point the readers using the higher resolutions outnumber that 800x600 crowd, I'll make it a fixed position, but for now, it's going to remain fluid.

Amy, this had nothing to do with just your comment you left this morning. I get at least 6 emails a month telling me about the gap, and every person who sends that email, is using a super high resolution browser.
Honestly, I am trying to please everyone, but for now, I'm doing my best to make it fluid for the two largest groups of readers.
Maybe when I upgrade to MT 4.0, I'll make it fixed, but not today. I've been up all night long and I'm done messing with this for now.
I honestly didn't even know what I was doing in the stylesheet, I just took guesses at it, and fucked it up over a dozen times.
I'm not playing with it again. *LOL*

Ok, I'm done messing around with it.

I am not good at this redesign, color, whatever stuff, so this is the best I could do.
Yup, indie pages as well as monthly and category pages are still white, but that's ok.
I just wanted the main page changed, and I don't think I did horribly bad at it.
Or maybe I'm super tired and it really looks like shit, but because my eyes are all blurry, I think it looks fine.. LOL

I'm sure if it looks like shit, someone will tell me.

*EDIT*
You may have to do a hard refresh. ctrl + F5 or ctrl + the refresh button in your browser.
It may still be pulling from your cache.
And man, does it look weird in IE.
But it's a weird I like. I wish I could pull off that odd thing in FF, but I know it's IE reading the CSS all funky.

IETab for Firefox.

I just learned of another cool add on for Firefox, IETab.

This is a great tool for web developers, since you can easily see how your web page displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.
It's an icon down in your status bar, and you left click on the icon to view the tab you're on, in IE rendering. Then you just left click again, and you're back to FF. The instructions are here, but it's really pretty awesome for those times when you need to see how your new template looks in IE, (because some people still use it) and you want to make sure that it looks ok, but you don't have to actually open up IE in a whole new browser.

It pretty much rocks.

You could have told me it was broken.

My feed was broken, I have no idea for how long, but it was.
But I have fixed it now.
I am using feedburner now to control my feed, so if you want to correct feed, the one that doesn't make the images disappear when you read it, the one that posts the full entry and not a partial entry, then click here to subscribe to my feed for this site.
How much you wanna bet my feed for Twisted Psycho is messed up too?

I also figured out the category selection for this version of MT.
The old one I had, you had to choose your main category first, then after you published you could go back into the entry, and assign multiple categories.
With this version, you can select multiple categories before you ever publish.
Way wicked cool.

May 25, 2007

Well that's a nifty feature we didn't have before.

MT now has scheduled posts.
meaning I can write something now and pick a date and time for it to self publish.
That's kinda cool.
Often times, I have a post in my head to write, but it doesn't fit with the rest of what I've written for the day, or just doesn't seem right at that moment.
With scheduled posts, I can just pick when I want it to post, and it will be done.

Nifty.

I figured out tags. I think. It's basically categories. So, if I wanted to tag this post site stuff, it should post the tag in the entry, and that would lead to my other entries labeled, or tagged the same way. Let's try it. If it doesn't work, I'll keep looking into it a bit more till I figure it out.

ICDsoft rocks again!

I absolutely love my web hosting company, ICDsoft.com.
They have always been there to help me with every support issue I've had, the plans are super reasonably priced, I love them.

Remember the other day I told you I needed to upgrade my MT because I was causing a drain on the server?
Well I have been in contact with one of the supervisors since then, Zafir, about the problem.
I went through log files, referrer stats etc, trying to locate any problems, and correct them.

Zafir went above and beyond helping me find and fix any errors. He did a detailed look at my account, explained a bunch of things to me about my sites stats.
I knew I was getting a lot of traffic, but had no idea just how much traffic, and it's all legit too. *phew*
I thought I was in hot linker hell for awhile there.

Zafir just upgraded my account to the business plan for free. That gives me 2000 MB of storage per month, as well as 40GB of bandwitdh per month. I don't have to pay any more fees until February 2008, when I would be renewing again next.
And the renewal fee at that time, isn't much more than I am paying right now.

Seriously, ICDsoft.com absolutely rocks. If you need new hosting, give them a look.
I have been nothing but impressed with them since I started with them 4 years ago.

Almost complete.

The upgrade is almost complete, just one more little thing that needs to be done.
During the upgrade, the nofollow plugin was installed again.
This will be removed once the upgrade is done.
The nofollow plugin is an automatic part of all new versions of MT.
Rather than touch anything that may mess up what Erika is doing, I'm leaving it alone until she is finished. Once she is done, I promise to remove the nofollow.
It should be done later tonight or by morning.

I really do like the new look of the MT login page though, and how it all looks.
There's a few new items that I need to figure out, but it should be pretty easy.

I could shoot myself.

Last night, I changed a few templates on here. Nothing that anyone would even notice.
Unless of course you were searching for do follow comments.
I didn't mean to remove the do follow.
It was a total accident that happened when I switched the templates out.

The good news is, that the main pop up comment box, is once again following.
The bad news is, that the individual archive pages are not following.
Yet.
I now have to change that template again, but I deleted my saved copy of the text file that did follow after I had gotten the template to work.
Now I have to go get a whole new individual archive template, swap out all my design codes and stuff into it, and rebuild the site.
Again.
I have rebuilt 6 times today and it's still not right.
I swear, I could shoot myself for ever touching it in the first place.
But more good news, at least I'm finally getting a handle on how all this damn MT template stuff works hahahahahah!

EDIT*

Alexa what?

I'm sure most people know by now about Alexa rankings. It's kinda like Google PR, except the lower your Alexa number, the better. With Google PR, the higher your PR, 0-10, the better.

If you use Firefox, you can install the Search Status extension, which does the exact same thing as the Alexa tool bar for IE, but you don't have to use IE, or install that tool bar which sets off most spyware catchers alarms.

Once you install it and restart your FF browser, the extension will give you your Google PR plus your Alexa ranking.
This will be the bar with blue on it.

How it works is this, every hit to your site or any site you visit, is counted once per day, per ip, towards your Alexa ranking.
Even your own first visit to your site everyday.
These hits to your site and others you visit, will help lower Alexa scores.

How else can you improve your Alexa?
Edit your contact info on your Alexa page.
How do you do that?
Well once you have the extension installed, go to your own site and right click on the bar with blue on it that is now installed on your status bar at the bottom of your FF browser.
Click on overview.
This will open up your Alexa page in a new window.
Click on the button that says edit info.
Edit your contact info.
You must have your own domain or the ability to add a site map to your site to be able to do this. Alexa requires a domain email to confirm you own your site, or a way to verify it's yours (site map).
Once you've gone through the verification process, you can ask others to write reviews for you on your Alexa page.
This will take them to Amazon.com to write the actual review.
The reviewer must have purchased from Amazon at least once, and be logged into their Amazon account in order to write a review.

That's it. These simple steps will help improve your Alexa rankings.
Much has been said recently about using this extension, that it's gaming Alexa. It's not. It does the exact same thing as the IE Alexa tool bar.
So go get it, keep it updated, and improve your ranking.

It's just house cleaning really, combine all the entertainment related posts together, and other things that can be combined.
It's daunting though.
Years worth of entries, moving them to their proper locations.

I have other site related stuff to tackle as well and will get to it as soon as I can. I'm caught up on email, so I should be able to get this stuff completely nailed down within a few days.

What should I file that under?

I'm having a day here folks. My frustration is at an all time high.
I have to go through all 3,00o+ of my posts and fix my categories. Something I never even really used in the beginning of this blog.
I didn't see the point.
But now I have to see the point if I want to keep making a living.
I have to figure out what this blogs main focus is.
Do you know what it is? Can I get some input here? LOL

I talk about everything on here, books, music, movies, health, kids, school etc etc, just check my category list to see a sample of all the things I talk about.
Most of them are in the general heading, because in each post, I talk about a little bit of everything.
In one post, I can go from talking about kids and school and health, to finances and household stuff, like this mornings first post.
I like the flow of my blog, it's a hodge podge of everything and my readers, you, seem to feel at ease here.
I have a bit of something for everyone and it's always been good until now.
I'm not really sure what to do about this.
I don't want to start 10 new logs, one for each subject. I don't have that kind of money to spend.
I could completely revamp my private blog which doesn't see as much action since my surgery admittedly, and turn it into a mass entertainment blog.
I'd export my entries for posterity of course, but do I really want to go to that kind of trouble to keep making an income?
What started out as something simple and easy to do, has today turned into one of the biggest hassles since I started blogging.
Just how much of my soul should I sell?

Filed under general because it's my thoughts, and site stuff because I'm talking about my site, and under blogging because it effects my blog.

He's what? Sick. Ugh.

The high school just called, Mark is sick and he will be on his way home if you say he can walk home.
Yes, send him home.
They said he had a temp of 100.9, was pale and clammy, lethargic, coughing, sneezing etc.
*sigh*
So he's on his way home.
I don't know why he didn't tell me was sick this morning, I was up.
He has been having to walk back and forth to school the last couple of days because sometime during school on Monday, someone slashed his bike tires.
I called the school and they said they can't have someone guarding the bike rack all day long.
Well excuse me, but this was a $200 bike that I now have to go have two tires replaced on so he can ride back and forth to school.
Last year, someone stole the seat off of his bike. So we ended up getting him a new bike for Christmas and now they did this.
This is b.s. I'm sick of stupid thugs ruining other peoples property at the school.
If you can't have someone watching the bike rack all day, fence it in like the elementary school does, and then padlock the gate.
When students needs to leave, send someone out to the gate with the key and let them get their bike and go home.

I have a bunch of stuff to do today.
I need to go to the store, fix some of my categories on here, check my bank info so I can fix my paypal stuff, and a bunch of other daily house stuff, dishes, floors, bathroom etc.
I better get started huh?
Later days.

And I'm still up.

I have wicked insomnia again so I figure I'll take this time to answer emails, (Kim) and do all the blog hopping I've missed the last few days.

In site/blogging/google news, something really weird is up with the google page rank system tonight.
Just a few short hours ago, blogs who had PR's of 7 are now 0's.
Interesting.
I'm not sure what it means, I hear the next PR update isn't until February, so maybe it's just down for the night on certain servers or something?
Who knows.
I'm not totally freaked out about it because I know if Tony Pierce's blog dropped from a PR7 to a 0 in just a few short hours, something is seriously wrong with the system. That man gets more hits and traffic than practically anybody else on the net.
Something is afoot.
Somebody call Scooby and the gang to try and figure it out. Those meddling kids will find the answer to just about anything.

ok, off to answer all my emails and blog surf. Wish I could sleep though. This is going to be a really rough day if I can't get a few Zzzzs in at some point.
Later days.

Making use of what's available.

I signed up with Blogvertise a few minutes ago based on the recommendations of some other bloggers I know.
It's much like the other paid blogging gig but from what I understand, they email you opps based on what your blog is like.
My site will go under review, they will check to see if I'm a good fit, and if approved, I have another way to make a few dollars and supplement my income.

Fuel my blog baby!

Check out Fuel My Blog.
It's a free way to get your blog or site noticed.
You 'buy' a square absolutely free, upload your icon and *bam*, your free advertising spot on the web.
Better grab a square fast, they are not going to make the site any larger and your block stays up for 5 years. That's absolutely free linkage for 5 years.
Move on it darlings!

Google analytics.

I read about Google analytics on another blog the other day and he wrote that it was a very impressive tool for tracking visitors and stats.
I added the code on the first and have been checking it nightly to see how it stacks up against other tracking software.
It's awesome!
I'm very impressed with how detailed the tracking reports are, right down to exactly hw many referrals from other sites I'm getting and how long each visitor stays on my site, what they are reading, exactly what they click on, and what pages they leave on.
It's very nice, easy to read, shows where I can make improvements for certain sections of my site.

If you're looking for a better way to track your stats in greater detail, try it out.
I'm gonna go play with it some more and see what else it tells me.
Very cool.

Miss me much? LOL

My host went down for most of today because a circuit in Boston broke down.
First time in the almost 4 years I have been with ICDsoft.com, that they have had any issues.
They were constantly posting updates on the main site for their clients, about every two hours so we knew exactly what was going on.

I love them! Even if it made my site unaccessible most of the day, they worked hard to restore service by partnering with other providers for upstream access so they could get us back online as soon as possible.

But now that I'm back up, I have to run out to take care of something. Figures...LOL

Later days.

Cleaned things up a bit around here.

I totally reorganized my sidebar on all my skins. It was a mess, I admit it. I just threw buttons, links, and ads, where ever for the last few months.
I also renamed one of the categories and edited all the entry titles for it because the meme it was for, changed the meme name for 2007. They made all new graphics and links so I wanted to correct that on my site.

That's one of the things I love about Movable Type.
Open up power editing and you can manage all your entries in just a few clicks and then rebuild the site.
It's so easy to do a search and replace for one word or twenty.

When I redid the sidebar, I removed a lot of useless crap I had on there. I didn't even realize how much junk was cluttering it up until I redid it.

So that's it, if you notice anything different, that's all I did.

November 28, 2006

I do stand up for what I believe in.

I was at my sisters house from Thursday through Saturday and while checking my email, I noticed I had a new blogad.
I hastily approved it because I saw the word 'parenting'.
It wasn't until Sunday morning that I realized what the ad was for.
It was for UCC Parenting, that's short for United Church of Christ parenting.
I debated with myself all day Sunday on whether or not to let that ad run. It was a $30 ad. I can totally use that money to pay bills and stuff.
But at the end of the day, I canceled the ad.
I wrote an email to the advertiser explaining why I removed it, and also to the blogad people asking them to refund any monies the advertiser had already paid me.
It only ran for 2 days I think, but that was still 2 days too long in my opinion.
As much as I could use that money, it would have been totally hypocritical of me to let it run.
An atheist allowing a religious ad to run above the fold for a few weeks. I couldn't do it.

Why am I posting about this? Because someone emailed me today asking where the ad went. They thought maybe they were seeing things. They couldn't believe I let it run in the first place.
I explained exactly as I explained above, what happened.
I need to be more watchful of the ads I guess.
Just because it says parenting, doesn't mean it's actually a site about parenting.
The link led to the UCC website about getting people involved in their church for the holidays and it had tv ads on it with kids talking about church.
So there ya go. None of you were seeing things, there was an ad for a church on my site for 2 whole days.
But their money has been refunded and all is well with my conscience again.

Advertisers on my site.

Some of you may have noticed an ad that takes over my page.
It's not spyware.
It is an ad that I get paid to run, it's called an interstitial ad. It will only run once per click, per person, per day. If you visit my page again today, it will not run again.
I have a lot of paid advertisers and I don't mind the interstitials.

I love my advertisers. They help pay my bills for my net service and a few other extras like the teens Runescape account etc.
I apologize if the ad made anyone worry that they had spyware on their computer, or that my site contained spyware and was dumping it onto your computer.

Still looking for a hosting company?

Get with ICDsoft.com.
I can't say enough great things about this company, they really do rock and just when I thought they couldn't possibly get any better, they go and send out this email;

Dear Kat,

We would like to inform you, that we have decided to upgrade the
resources of our hosting plans, without changing the hosting
prices
. The Universal plan will have 1000MB space and 20 GB
monthly transfer. The Business plan will have 2000MB space and
40 GB monthly transfer.

All hosting accounts, including the resold ones, will be upgraded
automatically on 31/July.

Best regards,
ICDSoft Account Department

For $6 per month, 1,000 MB of space and 20GB of transfer.
It was 750MB of space and 15GB of transfer.
And before that, it was 500MB of space and 10GB of transfer.
They just kept increasing what they do for you without raising the prices!
How can you not love that?!
And need a domain? Just $5 domain registration.
They also make it easy to pay them. CC, Paypal, and Western Union, so even people with no CC's can own their own domain.
Super fast help desk, like within minutes on the only two occasions I've ever had to contact them, and then a supervisor within 24 hours to make sure your ticket was resolved to your satisfaction.

Heck, even if I stopped blogging, I'd still keep the site up and running with something else. It's cheap, reliable, and amazingly good service.

Spam me again why don't you?

Spammers always find new ways of spamming bloggers. You block their key words or their sites, they start new ones.
The latest are forums.
They are using phbb forums now to attack. They got me like 30 times this morning alone.
